cabin in NC has rules like: Firearms strictly prohibited.
would it be breaking a law to regard the rule?

If it's like any other private establishment in NC with a "no guns" sign or rule, no. In the event they find out, they could ask you to leave or get rid of the firearm, but it would not be illegal unless you refused to do so at that point.

Maybe, Maybe not.
Is the cabin publicly owned? If owned by a Fed, State or Muni government, it is possible that there is a statute that prohibits firearms. I know that in Louisiana where I live there are specific statutes that prohibit firearms in, on or within a certain distance of specific types of public owned facilities.
In addition, even if it is private property, there may be a statute that prohibits firearms in, on or within a certian distance of certain facilities such as schools, etc....
My suggestion is to not rely on an internet lawyer, but research the laws in your local. Remember the old saying, "An ounce of prevention...."

It's pretty cut and dry in NC for this. I would be extremely surprised if the cabin was in any situation where it would be illegal to possess a firearm there.
<= North Carolinian, by the way. Familiar with the gun laws of that state, should have stated that in my original response.

Remember, a "federal facility" is a place where federal employees regularly work and have an office, not a cabin in a national forest that is rented, an outhouse, a dock or any place open to public access.
You have to look at your particular state law, but I would assume a "state" facility is the same.

If it is a private facility, and one brought in a FA, with a sign such as that posted, he/she would be told to leave... if they failed to do so, they would be Trespassing.. The charge would be Tresspass.. before it could stick, they have to give you ample notice and time, to leave.. If you simply left, no harm, no foul... live to fight another day.. If you stayed... Oh Well.......
