Are You Sitting Down ?

If your not sitting down, you may want to for this one. If your on heart meds, better take them now, I don't want anyone grabbing their chest over this terrible story.
Fox news just showed a news story about a woman who was cleaning out a house and found (are you ready?) 2000 Rounds of Ammo. There was a big dog and pony show with all kinds of police units, hazmat and I'm sure a chopper somewhere. The police want to find the person who was living there an talk to him about why he had 2000 rounds of ammo
Good shooting, John K:rolleyes:

**** call out the swat team, notify the FBI we have a good lead on a terrorist :banghead: :cuss:
I do have one question though why didn't the owner of that ammo find it a good home if it wasn't needed anymore:mad:

Good grief! You're kidding, right? That little?!
Amazing what is normal to "not enough" to us is an inconceivable nightmare to others.

Cripes! I'm in the process of redecorating the upstairs bedroom that has, over the last two years or so, become the defacto "gun room." Since I plan to replace the carpet, that means everything comes out... and I do mean everything. I can't tell you how many ammo cans, boxes, cases, and cartons that means. Two thousand rounds? I carried that many out in the first (of... uhhh... many) trips.
But I did find a few calibers where I'm a little short... time to place an order or two :D

No, just on the amount of Wolf you have.
Sorry, I couldn't resist that cheap shot.
I think some localities actually DO have limitations, and they usually put it in terms of a fire hazard.

Ya I heard that tidbit and commented to my wife about how ridiculous they were making it sound. Boy I wish that I had 2000 rounds lying around right now. But seeing as how the wife is a full time student, budget is kinda low, so all I have are 100 rounds of 45 acp :(
Anyone wann donate? :D

I just drove from WA to MT and was a little concerned about getting pulled over for speeding or some such thing. I had 4 rifles (.22, K31, and two 7.62 semi's, plus 3 pistols and at least 500 rds of ammo for each).
I am sure there would have been a big rucks as soon as I refused to let my van be searched, and then a warrant was obtained.
I would have probably made he national news, afterall, it is the weekend.

So the problem was that the owner was below the required minimum? I took more than 2000 rounds to the range a week ago Friday and didn't put much of a dent in the pile.:D

Twenty thousand rounds and a few toys? At least that is something most people do not have. Still nothing to panic over.

In September of 2002while my wife and I were on vacation in Wyoming(God I love that place) we had a house fire. The house was mostly a write off But the attached garage was undamaged. In several cabnets, I had stored around 30.000 rounrds. After the fire was out a local volunteer firefighter found the ammo and called over a cop who was nearby and asked what should he do? The cop took one look and said (according to my neighbor) There is nothing illegal here lock up the garage and stay out. That was the last I ever heard of it, can you imagine if the local New Jersey news paper got hold of that? I probably still be in Guantanamo:uhoh:

Wonder also what they did take. Reminds me on Alies the Father brings Vahn to one of his storage areas. Many guns/ammo/explosives/money stored. Vahn says something like "that you have let me see this and know the location tells me you have more then one of these" To with her father smiles.
Always felt it would be nice to have a secure storage place loaded with all that kind of stuff (legally of course) But wonder why there is never any sign of dust?

Get more info, guys.
Initial reports locally had the ammo figures at 200,000 rounds, then dropped down to 20,000. Homeowner's wife left him recently, and he's tried suicide twice (thought it doesn't seem like he used firearms), and isn't expected to survive the latest attempt.
The woman who found the stuff was looking into buying the house, hence the "snooping". Seems she found a box of "stuff" that had powder and other "bomb" type stuff, though what that other stuff was, she didn't say. Something about "chemicals", too. Evacuated 14 homes surrounding the house in question. Lots of hoopla, not much substance. The local talking heads are still swooning over it though:rolleyes: .
Hope they never visit my house.

Can an attorney or LEO answer this question: what would happen if you refused to leave your home in this situation?
BTW, sounds like the guy was a reloader.

Arent grenades considered destructive devices?
I used to have a few blasting caps that my buddy gave me, never used them though.. now i wish I had! probably got thrown away when my parents renovated my room.
DAMN I wish I had 20,000 rounds of any caliber! I would go out and buy a gun to use them in :D .

Depends if they were live grenades or just empty hulls. I wonder if the "blasting caps" are actually primers or caps for blackpowder rifles?

January 19, 2004, 05:12 PM
This kind of crap scares the piss out of me.
If you want interesting, check out your state and local fire codes. My city fire codes for example, appear to prohibit the possession of any quantity of blackpowder. Odds are that the can of gas that everyone keeps in their garage for the lawnmower is also technically illegal. It really irritates me that the "rational persons" view of ownership of ammo, gunpowder and the like has changed so much in the past 50 years or so.

I read about that. They said the guy had some kind of fetish with Playdoh. They found cases of it. They were all wondering why the boxes of playdoh had explosive warning on them however they quickly dismissed it and return to rant on the 2000 rounds.

I just had to open the last case of .45 ACP in the house! That means I have less than 1000 rounds- time to reorder! I think I have around 600 .40 S&W, about 500 .357 Sig and approx 200 .32 ACP.
I still have most of a case of .223 M193 plus the unopened one, and about 400 M855- so somewhere over 2000 rounds. Then about 150 rounds of .308- all of it match grade though- shot one at a time!
Plus a brick or so of .22LR, a few boxes of 12g buckshot and some slugs.
How much I have is a great mystery, but I think I am running low on the .45, especially as I have my brand new baby Kimber Custom TLE coming home soon...
