SKS Question

I was dry firing my Yugo SKS today and something strange happened. No, I did not accidentally shoot the wife's cat.

With the safety ON and the mag open, I let the bolt fly home from the rearward most position. BOINGGGG. The whole trigger assy came flying out.

After reassembly, I tried this with the safety OFF. She held tight. Did it about 10 times with the safety off and no problems. Once I engaged the safety and let the bolt fly, the trigger assy once again sprung out.

What is the deal with that???

Also, is that thin rod between the barrel and the bayo a cleaning rod???

Not sure about the trigger assembly thing, its never happened to me. Yes the thin rod is a cleaning rod. There should be a cleaning kit tucked in the little spring loaded door in the end of the stock. The cleaning rod will come out if you pull the spring loaded sleeve on the bayonet and let it hang straight down.

Is the spring underneath the trigger assembly intact? Are you sure it is fully locking together? It can take a LOT of force to attach the trigger assy to the receiver.

Yes, LynnMassGuy, I checked the connection of that notched pin that connects the trigger assy to the receiver. It seems very tight. Also, the spring that sits in a hole behind the trigger is strong.

To get the trigger assy to seat, I have to smack it pretty hard with the palm of my hand.

Smack it pretty hard? I have to stand on both of mine. It sounds like the locking tab thing may not be snapped in well or is loose or misconnected at the bottom. When you put the trigger assembly in, are you getting the front end up into those hooks?

aquqpong,

Yes, the two pins are in their respective slots. I suspect that the locking tab arm may be bent a bit. But why would the mag only fly out when the safety is on?
