I've been shooting IDPA for a little over a year...we run every week like a match, but tonight was our first "official" match at our club sence I've been there....I took second!!We had 8 stages with tons of props and about 100 rounds all together...it was fun...I didn't think I was doing that great, but the winner beat me by only 4 seconds(which is alot in IDPA,I know).....anyway,I can't wait for the next classifier......I'm pretty sure I'll move up from MM.....My step son came and took some pictures and I hope to post them later in the week.....

Nice job TonyB. A high level finish is sweet. Remember the Qualifier is a very different animal than a regular match.
Check out this link for Qualifier suggestions

Might that be at Chabot?
That was my second IDPA. So far all goals accomplished...not ejected..

Gary H: Yeah, it was Chabot. Fun group of people. It's great that everybody is there to have fun and be safe.
Hopefully, I'll see you there next month.

Sorry if we've hijacked the thread.
stglock: Chabot is the 3rd sunday of each month. The website is http://www.sfbay-idpa.com/
You need:
1. Gun - most stock guns fit into one catagory or another
2. Holster - You can get cheap kydex holsters from Fobus or Uncle Mike
3. Three or more magazines
4. Two single or one double magpouch. Try to get one without snaps or velcro. You can get cheap kydex double pouches from Fobus or Uncle Mike
5. Jacket or Shirt to cover your holster and mags
6. $20
First time there, show up at 8:30 to help set up and go through mandatory training.

Stglock,
Sprout took care of you for most everything.
www.idpa.com is idpa's website. IT has membership information and the rule book on there. I'd suggest taking a look at the rule book before participating.
Most IDPA clubs will let you shoot at least one match before requiring you to join IDPA.
I'd recommend using a jacket or vest as a concealment article of clothing. When you have a jacket or vest on, you can 'sweep' the jacket aside and get a firm grip on your handgun. If you use a sweatshirt type of cover, you have to pull it up with your hand or thumb and generally this doesn't allow you to draw as quickly if you were wearing a jacket or vest.
Some clubs have flashlight You might want to pick up a flashlight at some point. Surefires are the more popular manufacturer where I shoot but I hear that Scorpian makes a good light.
Good luck. IDPA is a lot of fun.

If I may be so bold, I've cooked up a little site for our brandy-new IDPA club and there are a couple pages in there that may be of help answering some questions for you.

That's a very nice site that you have. I'll check it out in more detail later on.
No one is shooting a revolver in your group?

Thanks Jim. :)
No wheelgunners yet, although there are a couple guys on the committee who are going to start shooting revolvers to try and get some interest up. So there should be some 6-shooter scores this season. We're also looking to do a couple BUG side-matches and maybe a night-shoot or two.

Eskimo Jim:I used my Glock 17 in the match.I also use a Taurus Pt99 sometimes....and this week I used my Father's Ruger Security 6(revolver)I did pretty bad with the revolver.....also the pictures came out horrible so I didn't even get them....everything was way too blurry...must've used the wrong film...I'll try again soon though.....
I'll probably stick to using the auto's as the revolver slows me down with the reloads......
The stages were haevy on the props.....we had a babycarrage stage,a prone stage,a bulls eye stage,a walking the dog stage,8 stages in all..it took from 2:00 to about 8:30..wwe were all pretty beat by the end...there were 15 shooters all together....our usual practices take about half the amount of time...next time I'll be sure to rest up before hand....

Gabe & tony,
That's great. It's good to see more people involved in the shooting sports.
Have fun with the IDPA.
