Minnesota THR Shoot - Sunday, January 25

First (I think) THR Minnesota Shoot
Sunday, January 25
2 p.m.
Burnsville Pistol Range
14300 Ewing Ave
Burnsville, MN 55306
http://www.bvpistol.com/info.htm
If enough people are in, I'll see if the range can accomodate us with a group rate, but it's pretty cheap to begin with, and I assume we'll double up, at least, on lanes.
Reply below if you can make it!

This may sound like a stupid question, but is this an indoor range? I have been going down to Armored Fire in Circle Pines but when we were there today there was no heat on the ranges. We got frozen out after about an hour and a half.

Sounds like fun - I'm in.
I shoot there all the time and I know that groups can rent the north bay (six lanes) at an hourly rate. If you check bvpistol.com, you can see if the bays are pre-booked.

I have an IDPA match at Armored Fire on the 25th
I planned on shooting that match originally, but when I heard the heat in the bays is still out... well, I'll do the late-Feb match. There's a classifier in early Feb, but that'll be an all-day affair.

I am in. I will either be in a light blue four door lumina, or on a Honda XR400 motorcycle if it is above freezing. (doubt it)
5'7" white mail, 21, dark brown hair, boyish good looks :D ;), black pants and jacket, hard pistol case.
If any of you guys are interested there is a MN Free State Project meet on the 24th, Saturday. PM me for details, anyone is welcome.

I figure its good experience. This time of the year, most of the day is cold and dark, just like the shooting bay.

Wow! It looks like we've got a pretty big group going here! I hope we can find enough lanes at the BPR this coming Sunday. My experience going there on Sunday afternoons is that there is usually a "line" of people waiting for lanes. Also, more often than not, one of the two available bays is usually reserved for organized events (qualifications, CCW classes, etc.).
Would any of you be interested in adjourning to the Dairy Queen next door after the shoot?

Mpayne, were you going to try and get reservations? Or just see what it looks like? Either way, I know armored fire and bills are always busy on the weekends too.
You'll know me, I"ll be wearing a black leather trench coat and about 6'2" and about 350 with short brown hair. (geez, is this a shoot or a personals ad? :p )
See you guys there :D

I think I am going to stop at Officemax and buy some name tags. That way we can all right down our THR User name and our real names. That should help with identification and make it easier to get to know people.

I would be up for the Dairy Queen idea. It is much easier to carry on a conversation inside DQ than a pistol range with double hearing protection and all the shooting.

With a bit of luck I should be there. What kinds of guns are you bringing? I will have 2 kimbers, a colt, and a S&W 945 and maybe a .22 or 2, and my trusty Glock 26. Just look for the guy carring a HEAVY ammo box.
dustind
January 22, 2004, 01:29 AM
For pistols I only have a .22 Beretta Neos. I will bring some 9mm ammo in case someone is willing to let me shoot their pistol. I am still deciding what brand I would like to buy, possibly a glock.

January 22, 2004, 05:56 AM
dustind, I'll bring my para 18.9 LDA if you want to try it out.
Other than that, it'll probably be my ProCarry HD II .45, AMT automag II (need to try out a new mag for it) my high standard Sentinel .357 and something else,a couple of .22's. Maybe the Coonan will find it's way out of the safe.
Sounds like a good time so far. :D

I'll try my best to get there, I'd say 70% chance that I'll be able to attend.
If I come I'll be toting a S&W performance center case, an ammo case filled with 357 target loads and probably wearing carhartt or camo pants and victorian style glasses. Hope I can make it :D
I'd be down for DQ, though technically I'm on a diet ;)

I'll have my Colt Gov't, a S&W 442 and a Browning Buckmark for sure.
I may bring my Kahr P40 (which is for sale, BTW) and, if the wife grants permission a Colt Python.
Whatever I bring, others are welcome to shoot with the understanding that I am a reloader. I certainly don't expect you to shoot my handloads, and wouldn't use my own handloads in anyone else's firearms. I'll buy a box or two of range ammo for that.
And anyone who doesn't want their brass is welcome to drop it in my bag. :D

Mpayne, were you able to make a "reservation" at the BPR? Given the number of us going, it might be a good idea to give Roger there a "heads-up" just in case he needs to institute some crowd control measures. If you want, I can give him a call tomorrow to find out how informal group events like this are usually handled at the range.
Since we'll most likely be handling and shooting each others' firearms, I would respectfully like to suggest that finger ornaments like rings be taken off to eliminate the chances of the guns getting scratched while being handled.
I also think the name tags are an excellent idea! Older folks like me tend to have difficulties remembering names.
If all goes well, it looks like we'll all be having a jolly good time socializing and sampling various firearms at the Shoot.

I'll still be there. Mrs. Payne says it's fine.
TBO is, of course, welcome, provided he tries not to step on our toes with his jack boots. :)
Yes, it was short notice, but we'll have more shoots soon.
If we like this range, I guess we'll do a weekday night so we can reserve space. Otherwise, we can try Bill's, which does have group rates.
See everyone there!

I have some digital pictures to post. If anybody would prefer to remain anonymous, let me know and I'll leave you out. Otherwise I'll post `em in a day or two.
Thanks, everyone, for coming.
We tentatively plan to meet again in about a month at another indoor range. Burnsville Pistol Range is truly great (LOVE the computerized target system!) but they are too booked up to accomodate even a medium-sized group like us.
