The Low Tech thread here helped crystallize something that amazes me. The range of pressure from .38 spl (14,000 psi) to rifles and the .454 (~60,000 psi) is only four fold, yet there is an amazing array of differently performing rounds. Similarly, the range of velocities is only from about 1,000 fps to an upper limit of ~5,000 fps.
