I just received my late Grandfather's Winchester Model 12 Shotgun. It is about 58 years old, but in near new condition. However, I have no owner's manual, nor any experience with shotguns. I would like to field strip it, so I can properly clean and oil the shotgun.

However, I've been unable to find any disassembly instructions online. The Winchester page has none, which surprised me.

Would someone please either post instructions for disassembly/assembly, provide a link where they may be found, or email them to me.

Thanks,

Clay

Pull out your February 2004 issue of the "American Rifleman" and turn to page 68 for disassembly instructions and an exploded view of the Model 12. Worth filing away for future reference.

And, if you're not yet an NRA member, go to your local library and make copies . . . ;)

I agree about getting a hold of the most recent copy of American Rifleman.

Once important thing, though...

The front end (barrel, magazine and forearm) are attached to the receiver with an interrupted-screw. When you are reassembling, make sure that everything is fully seated and that you use very little (VERY LITTLE) pressure to twist the two pieces together. You can get quite a bit of leverage, and cross-threading could be a real problem.

Aside from that, it's my all-time favorite shotgun. Use it often and enjoy!
