I was reading the over 60 and carrying post and noticed a trend of mostly 1911 and revolvers in that group. It got me to thinking, wonder what other age groups are like?

After voting feel free to tell your age and what exactly you carry. Any explaination is welcome.

This is your MOST carried or primary carry firearm.

I'm 43 I carry a Night hawk Vickers tactical 1911 and back it up with a ruger sp101 .357 magnum.

July 23, 2011, 11:00 PM
I am 26 and I have always used some form of polygun as my training and defense tool. Glock 19 to XD to G-23 back to the g-19.

July 23, 2011, 11:02 PM
Im 22 and I carry a polymer frame pistol.

I decided that as soon as I start shooting my revolver and if I do well with it, Ill find myself a nice holster and carry that instead.

Until then, Its the polymer.

July 23, 2011, 11:11 PM
I'm 45 and voted polymer because I always carry my g21 as primary, but also carry a 442 j frame in my front pocket as bug.

July 23, 2011, 11:13 PM
I am 54 years old.

I have owned and carried a variety of revolvers, from J-frames to N-frames. I have owned and carried a variety of polymer framed pistols, from LCP to Kahr to Glocks.

These days I carry a Commander-sized steel 1911 in the three seasons we call Getting Hot, Really Hot and Thank God It's Trying To Cool Off a Little. Yes, I live in TX. :)

During that season we call "Winter", defined as "any time I can wear a sweatshirt or jacket/coat" I carry a 4" N-frame.

July 23, 2011, 11:18 PM
I'm 31 and carry a 1911, so I voted that way, but I've been carrying 1911s ever since I got my CCW, which would've been in my 20's, so....

I'm 43 I carry a Night hawk Vickers tactical 1911 and back it up with a ruger sp101 .357 magnum.

July 23, 2011, 11:22 PM
At 40, I carry a j-frame. That has worked for me for a while. However, I intend on carrying a small auto. I'm just waiting on the right one. I think the HK p2000sk v3 might be it. It's the only one that I have been impressed with on MY terms. (I like hammers and sa/da).

Im 46 and carry a Sigpro .40 even in the woods love it.

July 23, 2011, 11:26 PM
36 and I carry a Kahr CW9 or Glock 19

July 23, 2011, 11:27 PM
I will be 50 next month. Depending on my mood I carry any of the above. But most frequent is a LCP 380acp.

July 23, 2011, 11:29 PM
I prefer my 5" 1911[ by the way I am of med ht. and build and have no prob. concealing it with a baggy tshirt] but when the heat index has it at about 110 in Fla. its shorts and a sr9c 9mm im 45 by the way

July 23, 2011, 11:43 PM
I'm 54 and I carry what ever it is I need for where ever I'm going and what ever I'm doing.

July 23, 2011, 11:54 PM
I am 26 and I carry a glock 26.

July 24, 2011, 12:06 AM
age 25

.357 Service Six or .45 Colt New Vaquero?

Preeetty confident I'll end up the lonely minority for my age group. ;)

July 24, 2011, 12:20 AM
21 and I carry a polymer frame DAO. Soon to be put to HD duty and replaced with a 1911.

July 24, 2011, 12:30 AM
I'm 26 and carry a g27 99% of the time. When I'm not carrying my g27 I'm carrying one of my other Glocks.

July 24, 2011, 12:59 AM
I'm under 21, so I cant vote. I mainly pocket carry a j-frame.

July 24, 2011, 01:18 AM
26 and Revolver. Either 686 or 640

July 24, 2011, 02:03 AM
I voted 30 because it is less than a month away.

I carried a revolver for a little while. Now I carry a modern polymer gun.

July 24, 2011, 02:05 AM
Im 22 but Couldnt vote.

My math tells me i should expect to get my license in sept. So, right now its just a p. Frame, by then its very possible i will carry both the p. Frame and a revolver... Or maybe just a revolver...?

July 24, 2011, 02:10 AM
28. These days I carry a 1911, but my usual carry has usually been a non 1911 metal compact.
Not sure what that falls under.

July 24, 2011, 02:11 AM
Can't carry outside of my home in my state of residence, but if my legislators ever get their act together and go shall-issue, I'm either carrying a Glock 17 or a Ruger LCR.

July 24, 2011, 02:16 AM
What about an option for those of us who are under 21 but carry? There are several states that issue licenses to those under 21 and several more that let those under 21 carry if they're a licensed non-resident.

I'm 20 and carry a Sig 228

July 24, 2011, 03:33 AM
62 and there's ALWAYS a 1911 very close to me!! And 6 mags, 2 of them are 10 rounders. Plus 2 50 rnd boxes of ammo in the truck and 500 rounds in the house.

July 24, 2011, 04:33 AM
I'm 23 and I carry a Kimber Pro Carry II.
I carry a 1911 because of it's slim profile. With my thin stature a revolver's cylinder or a double stack magazine usually makes the gun too thick.

Deus Machina
July 24, 2011, 06:24 AM
I'm 25, and carry a CZ PCR. Does that count as 'modern/polymer' or '1911/HP'? It is essentially a Browning design, and originally done closer to the BHP hayday than Glock's....

July 24, 2011, 07:26 AM
63 and I carry both---PF9 most times but sometimes one of my 1911's

July 24, 2011, 07:38 AM
I am age 49, and when out of police uniform, usually carry revolvers concealed. (My mandated duty handgun is a DA .40 autopistol.) It is possible I will revert to mostly carrying a 1911 someday, but for now, I like my go-to handguns to have DA trigger pulls. I just don't have enough time to train properly with too many weapon systems.

July 24, 2011, 07:53 AM
I am 25 and carry a Glock 23. I just switched over from a Ruger Sp-101 because I couldn't shoot it very well. I haven't found a revolver yet I can shoot accurately, DA or SA.

July 24, 2011, 07:57 AM
What about an option for those of us who are under 21 but carry? There are several states that issue licenses to those under 21 and several more that let those under 21 carry if they're a licensed non-resident.

If this is the case just vote in the 21-29 group. I just made the category based on my state. You have to be 21 to get a cdwp here, also to buy a handgun/or handgun ammo from a ffl dealer here you have to be 21.

July 24, 2011, 08:17 AM
56 and a glock 27

July 24, 2011, 08:21 AM
21-29 group, and when I carry fullsize, it's a 1911. When pocket carry is required, a Kel-Tec.

July 24, 2011, 08:41 AM
Very good poll! I'm 24 and carrier either a Kahr CW9 or M&P9c in a MTAC IWB holster. I'm to broke to afford a 1911 but would be willing to carry a champion sized 1911 since I wear a sportscoat everyday.

68...Kimber UCC II .45 ACP (1911)

M2 Carbine
July 24, 2011, 09:25 AM
I prefer to carry a Kimber Ultra but due to the way I dress during the long hot summer I usually carry a pocket pistol like the Ruger LCP or Ruger LC9.

July 24, 2011, 09:29 AM
You did not put a 18 through 20 age group, there are certain states that allow you to start carry at age 18. For example Montana and Vermont both allow you to carry at age 18. The reason I am bringing this to your attention is that I am 20 but put 21 through 29 with revolver. I just got it a Smith 638 :D.

July 24, 2011, 09:42 AM
74 next month and still in my right mind, or as close to it as I ever was.

I'm now pocket carrying a Keltec .380 summer and winter, but I hope to change that by next winter. If I'm still on the top side of the dirt by then I'll probably be carrying a Ruger LC9 if I can find one at a reasonable price, if not probably a Keltec PF9. If I get either of the little 9mm guns it will replace the .380 for both summer and winter carry, but I'm keeping the .380 as a BUG for certain occasions beyond my control when I have to travel through the south side of metro Atlanta.

July 24, 2011, 09:51 AM
40-49 age group and I mostly carry Springfield XDs, vacillating between an XD9 Service and an XD 45 Tactical. Occasionally, I carry a S&W Model 60.

Yo Mama
July 24, 2011, 09:54 AM
No options listed for me to choose from.

I'm 31, and carry a polymer pt145 for summer, and 1911 in winter.

July 24, 2011, 09:57 AM
32, and I carry revolvers exclusively. They are for me the most instinctive, natural handguns to use.

I used to carry a 1911 in my 20s, but it became finicky and it has been parked in my safe for a couple of years. I'll probably carry it again one day, once I get it up and running.

July 24, 2011, 10:08 AM
Yo momma, what season is longer? Go with that I guess, LOL

July 24, 2011, 10:09 AM
Yeah axel larson, go with the youngest group if under 21 and carry legally

Taurus 617 CCW
July 24, 2011, 10:19 AM
I am 31 and I mostly carry a Glock 19 but also carry a Ruger LCP when circumstances require a more discreet gun.

July 24, 2011, 10:57 AM
62, carry a LCP most of the time, M&P 9c and Colt New Agent the rest.

AK kind of guy
July 24, 2011, 11:07 AM
I'm 28 and carry poylmer framed guns sometimes one of my revolvers or even my 1911 sometimes it depends on how i am dressed or how i feel that day.

July 24, 2011, 11:25 AM
21 . steel frame s&w 9 mm

July 24, 2011, 11:28 AM
Like probably a majority, I own more than one, so multiple choice would be indicated. Usually a Commander-sized 1911, but a 2" revolver at times.

July 24, 2011, 11:30 AM
25 I carry an EMP. 40 or Wilson spec ops 9(polymer similar to 1911)

July 24, 2011, 11:31 AM
I'm 22 and carry an HK USP 40 Compact. Every once and a while I will carry my wife's Taurus 357 Mag snub with concealed hammer. Once while I was deer hunting I went into town and carried a Ruger Super Blackhawk 44 mag with a 7.5" barrel, not easy.

July 24, 2011, 11:56 AM
I am just about 23; my primary carry is an officer 1911 in .45 auto but i will also carry a S&W 696 .44 special when the urge strikes me.

July 24, 2011, 12:45 PM
I'm 26, I carry all of the above. Sometimes polymer, sometimes metal. Sometimes it's a semi-auto, sometimes it's a revolver

But I never only sometimes carry. I always carry

July 24, 2011, 12:45 PM
45 YOA, and carry a Kel-Tec PF-9 almost exclusively. I do sometimes carry a Charter Arms Undercover .38 when I feel a little nostalgic,

July 24, 2011, 12:51 PM
29 and carry and XD9sc or very occasionally a SW Mod. 36.

July 24, 2011, 04:41 PM
Well I'm currently 22, and my most carried used to be a revolver. Until I bought a nice little Ruger SR40c a few days ago :)

July 24, 2011, 04:49 PM
24, Currently carrying an M&P9c in a crossbreed supertuck.

July 24, 2011, 07:16 PM

No category for me. I'm 50 + and carry a Modern/Steel style firearm

July 24, 2011, 09:06 PM
No category for me. I'm 50 + and carry a Modern/Steel style firearm
the category is modern / or polymer. A modern steel/aluminum/alloy/polymer firearm such as a 59 or 39 series smith or a beretta 92 or glock/xd/m&p and such.

this category is basically a non 1911/ HP design and a non revolver category.

July 24, 2011, 09:30 PM
I think I have them all covered...
Male 51, carry XD40sc or Ruger LCP, nightstand piece is fullsize 1911, 1/2 a step from that is a single action 357.

3 more steps, 870

July 24, 2011, 09:47 PM
ok guys here are the percentages per group after 152 votes...

modern/polymer firearm 58.2%
1911/HP firearm 25.5%
revolver 16.3%

modern/polymer firearm 50%
1911/HP firearm 32%
revolver 18%

modern/polymer firearm 55.5%
1911/HP firearm 22.25%
revolver 22.25%

modern/polymer firearm 48%
1911/HP firearm 28%
revolver 24%

I will do another update with percentages at around 250 votes and see how things change if we make it that far.

July 24, 2011, 10:14 PM
Interesting. Looks like people of all age groups who actually carry a defensive weapon because they think their life might depend on it sometime tend to favor the most modern, reliable, high magazine capacity handgun they can get.
Granddad's old 1911A1 is a sentimental favorite, but for my personal preference, I'd stick with a Glock30 .45 with G21 mags, for 13 +1 rounds.

July 25, 2011, 10:24 AM
55 and cc a J frame Smith. Truck gun/house is a 1911/870 shotgun. Recently purchased a Glock 26 and I am going to test drive a super tuck holster. If I like it, I will start carrying the 26.

I'm 35 yrs old and carry a Glock 19 and a Ruger LCP. Sometimes though, I will carry a S&W M64 or Ruger Blackhawk(.45LC.)

July 25, 2011, 02:22 PM
I'm 44 and I carry a CW9.

July 25, 2011, 02:45 PM
I'm 30 and generally carry a p3at or pf9. But I prefer to carry my p226 when my clothing can handle it. If I could find a cc holster for it I would carry my 627 pc I don't own anything that feels more natural than an N frame.

July 25, 2011, 02:57 PM
I'M 22 and I carry a 1911 because thats what I was taught to shoot pistols on. It's all my dad had so I got real familiar with it. I love the way it feels and with the right holster its easy to carry.

July 25, 2011, 03:36 PM
Interesting. Looks like people of all age groups who actually carry a defensive weapon because they think their life might depend on it sometime tend to favor the most modern, reliable, high magazine capacity handgun they can get.

I'm in the 21-29 group and carry a revolver, but I still think this is a fair generalization.

A big inhibitor for me is simply cash. As a young family man with 3 small children and a mortgage, financial constraints are a significant factor. I've chosen to carry that which I am in a position to practice with regularly. I'm tooled and well-stocked to reload .38 specials/.357 magnum, as well as .45 Colt greatly due to having a dad and grandfather who have been shooting these for years. I split the cost of bullets, powder, and primers with my dad (brass isn't an issue), and I use his reloading equipment.

I'm not tooled to handload 9mm or .45 ACP. I would need to purchase new dies. The alternative is to practice with factory ammo - which is obviously more expensive. At best, you're looking at what, $0.30 per round with FMJ .45 ACP, and maybe $0.20 per round for 9mm? Even if that's slightly off, I can do much better than that shooting lead handloads in my revolvers. Aside from that, buying a new automatic also necessitates the purchase of new accessories (magazines, holster, mag-pouch, etc).

I'd love to get back into the 1911 business (I've owned 2 Springfields since I've been married and ended up selling both due to a few tight financial months), but I've accepted that it will be a few years before I can get there.

I think many will agree that carrying something you can afford to practice regularly with is of great importance.

55, jacket weather is a 5906 or if I'm headed to Philly...lol. T shirt weather is a PT 709.

July 25, 2011, 04:44 PM
I put revolver as it's what I carry most often, a J-Frame due to size/weight. I'd carry a rifle if it was practical.

July 25, 2011, 09:34 PM
Whats your age group, and what do you carry?

Over 50 and sometimes I carry a revolver while other times I carry a poly-plastic pocket pistol. How's that for alliteration? :)

July 25, 2011, 09:42 PM
I'm 27 and carry a Kel-Tec P-32 for now... I'm trying to decide which "real" gun I want to get for my primary. I'm leaning towards Glock, but I'm having a hard time taking the plunge. That little .32 is just so easy to carry in a pocket holster...

July 25, 2011, 09:49 PM
50+ pocket carry LCP the ONLY plastic gun I own

July 25, 2011, 09:50 PM
I'm 28 and carry a S&W 442 with a Crimson Trace grip

July 25, 2011, 09:55 PM
Didn't vote.

My "always" gun is a Kel-Tec P32 because it is so small and light that I have it with me even when I carry my larger gun which is usually a S&W M19 snub. However, i will soon have a S&W 442 which will probably become my "always gun.

I also carry a Commander size 1911 from time to time.

July 25, 2011, 10:12 PM
45 year old married white male packin G29 unless it is bear season or I'm in their neck of the woods... In which case it is S&W 629PC 2.625"...

July 25, 2011, 11:16 PM
I'm 48 and carry either a 1911 Combat Commander or a revolver. Started carrying when I was 21. Carried a Diamondback for years. Went to the Commander at about 30. Still carry wheel guns too. Now I switch between the 1911 and a Charter Bulldog. Sometimes a Colt Cobra. Depends a lot on the weather.
I don't own a plastic weapon. No offense to those that do, they just ain't for me.

July 25, 2011, 11:33 PM
25, all steel 5inch 1911 or plastic 4inch 40ve

July 25, 2011, 11:38 PM
34 carry a Browning BDA .380

July 26, 2011, 12:22 AM
i'm 56. keep a scandium j frame smith loaded full power .357mag. sports crimson trace grips in a nemisis pocket holster in strong side jeans pocket. it weighs in with laser grips to within a fly's whsker of factory hogue grips...12 oz i beleive. i like the fact that you don't see or feel it, yet have some serious power available in an instant. downside, great grouping out to 50' then the spray effect begins. i sometimes carry a 1911 70's combat elite colt that i bought as a child, lol. bianchi inside the waistband holster, strong side carry. more gun imho, plus better range, (150'), than the snub, but i prefer the feathery weigh in of the smith.

July 26, 2011, 01:09 AM
Carried all kinds of handguns for self-defense since I was 21 years old when "I am not a crook" was president. For the last ten years or so, I've used a 1911-style pistol.

July 26, 2011, 01:09 AM
Interesting breakdown of age categories there.
Goes to show that shooting is by no means a young sport.

21-29 thus far ... 37+15+10= 52 people.
30-39 thus far ... 30+15+7= 52 people.
40-49 thus far ... 24+11+13= 48 people.
50+ thus far ... 39+24+27= 80 people.

Better start recruitin' them yougn's with their bad music, ill fittin' pants and long hair. 8)

I'm 25 and carry a S&W M&P 40C or LCP (currently out of commission due to reliability issues). I just bought a Sig P290 and am waiting to find a good IWB holster to start carrying it.
I'd love to get to carrying a 1911, but concealing the M&P 40C is difficult enough...

July 26, 2011, 08:00 AM
62, Ruger SP 101 357. But have been known to tote A 1911

July 26, 2011, 08:14 AM
57 and my primary is a G27,I started with the 1911's and still love em.
But due to my work enviroment I down sized to the Glock 27 and 19.
When I retire and printing is not as big an issue Ill probably go back to the government modle.

July 26, 2011, 09:05 AM
After 265 votes, here are the percentages per group...

I think these are some pretty good results. Keep them coming. I will do another % around 350 votes if we make it that far. Thanks

July 26, 2011, 09:08 AM
44 Here. The weather pertty dictates what I am carrying. 1911 is my most carried choice with Maine weather being cool enough to conceal comfortably. Warm weather with shorts and a tee shirt does not leave alot of options for me, so its a 22 semi auto. Sometimes I will carry 357mag ruger vaquero w/high ride holster in cooler weather also.

July 26, 2011, 09:22 AM
32 and 4" 1911 here. Kinda hard to conceal in summer, but its an open carry state too.

July 26, 2011, 11:40 AM
50+ Glock 26 or j frame .38. Thinking about a NAA pug for pocket carry on a daily basis because of the size.

July 26, 2011, 02:35 PM
There's no option for pocket pistols. Which are a good alternative to being unarmed when you are in a NPE.

July 26, 2011, 02:57 PM
Colt Agent 38 special , in the summer.

July 26, 2011, 03:48 PM
I"m 47, and voted revolver, I do carry one a lot, but I also carry a Glock in .40 or a Springfield 1911 in .45 regularly too. I shoot IDPA, and find I do better at the matches if I carry the same platform I'm competing with.

July 26, 2011, 03:52 PM
PUSHING 62. Always my SEECAMP 32. With MY SP 101 357 MAG .As a primary.mouse gun always in my pocket to keeps me balanced with my wallet ;)

July 26, 2011, 04:25 PM
35, and I carry my M&P .40 more often, but I DO carry my 1873 Schofield replica when the mood strikes me.

Need to disassemble an old worn out engineer boot and finangle it into a Cavalry style holster soon... make it more concealable than the clamshell that hangs the gun halfway down my thigh.

I think this is a great survey Beenbag! Very interesting.

Though I don't have a CC permit yet, my first choice will be my 1911, but I do have a LCP for the days when space is limited.

July 26, 2011, 07:51 PM
22. Lcp.

July 26, 2011, 08:40 PM
I'm 35 and I carry a 5" 1911 IWB usually.

July 26, 2011, 08:48 PM
Im 22 and carry a commander sized 1911. Did carry a Beretta 92FS for a while also.

July 26, 2011, 08:58 PM
One thing I noticed was us geezers seem to be well armed.

July 26, 2011, 09:57 PM
28 and i always carry my backup LCP but my primary changes from M&P .357sig and a full size 1911 depending on clothing.

July 27, 2011, 11:26 AM

Can't vote in your poll because you don't allow for multiple choices. I carry both a Glock and a 1911 Compac, depending on circumstances and clothing style.

July 27, 2011, 02:44 PM
I didn't know what to vote for.
I'm 22.
Pocket carry a .25 automatic or a .38 derringer.
IWB carry .32 S&W-L 6 shot revolver sometimes.

I'm 36 and I like revolvers and 1911's.

July 27, 2011, 08:42 PM

and carry a .45 caliber 1911~! ;) :D

July 27, 2011, 08:47 PM
I voted 30-39, 1911 for mine. It is really a Sig P238. Oh so small and just feels right. It gives me the higher percentage of carry that I was looking for. My other carry is a Kimber CDP Pro, but I just love the size, weight, and feel of the P238. Super easy to throw on and almost forget about it being there.

45 years old and carrying either a G36 or Kel Tec PF9.

July 28, 2011, 11:55 AM
55 years old and I never carried a high cap firearm. Started with a taurus 85ss revolver for 20+ years then a KT pf-9 and now a kahr CW or CM9.

July 28, 2011, 10:51 PM
I'm 22 and carry a Taurus 85 snubbie.

July 28, 2011, 10:55 PM
Interesting results. Apparently, regardless of the age group, the "modern polymer style handgun" is most popular.

July 29, 2011, 12:23 AM
I'm 61 now.

I carried a Colt diamondback for many years, Ten years ago I recieved a S&W mod. 4553...( dao ) that reminds you of a 1911 at first glance. I've carried it exclusivly.

26. Carry a 2011.

July 29, 2011, 12:40 AM
69 - In younger years in Alaska I used to carry .44mag and .357 revolvers mostly. Nowadays I have plastic pistols. .380 LCP for summer wear, Taurus 740 Slim .40S&W or Taurus 24/7 PRO .45 when jacket weather returns. I might be getting older than dirt but like the new lightweight poly framed autos.

July 29, 2011, 08:38 PM

I am 29 and I carry a Glock 17/19/26 depending on what I am wearing and where I am going. But overall it is a high capacity 9mm Glock.

July 30, 2011, 09:15 AM
Hello friends and neighbors // I'm 49 -- I've gone from carrying a 6" 586 whenever possible as EDC to carrying a S&W 442 as EDC.

In the last two years I've started carrying a CZ 75B .40sw or a Dan Wesson 15-2 snubbie in urban areas(when ever possible) and the 6" 586 in rural/woods, as well as the 442.

Upon purchase of the CZ, I started taking classes to help push my learning of a semiautos manual of arms (much different than my life of revolver shooting).

I don't regret a minute or a dime and now have as much confidence in the semiauto as the revolvers.

I also tried the CZ 2075RAMI .40sw (steel model) as back up.
I was not accurate enough with it and soon found the 442.

Guess I need a 442 in .40sw as well as .38.

July 30, 2011, 09:32 AM
I am 57 and like my 1911's though a bit on the heavy side.
I also like the 640 S&W in a 9R Bianchi which is no longer made.
Sometimes a Glock finds its way into my belt.
I think the reason so many carry Glock's is they work 100% of the time and you don't have to worry about the looks. They never were a fancy gun. Also the options with the grip extenders really make it multi-purpose. A G27 with a G19 mag and sleeve on it can bring things up a notch if need be.
So depending on where i am going and the environment , you could find me with several choices.
A walk in the woods is different than a trip to the store. So is a ride on a Harley different from a Friday fish fry.

July 30, 2011, 10:01 AM
I'm 71 and normally carry a Glock 30SF or my Kimber Compact Stainless (4") in a OWB holster. If going "light" I've got a S&W 642 in my right front pocket in an Uncle Mikes holster.

July 30, 2011, 03:16 PM

July 31, 2011, 11:00 AM
I'm 50+ and carry a Beretta 92FS on the job. When I'm away from work I find myself going back to my roots more often. I usually carry a 4" Colt Python, or a 4" S&W 10-8, 28-2, 686-1 or a 3" S&W 65-3. Occassionally I will carry my personal Beretta 92F, Sig SP2340, or Colt Gov't Model Series 70 MK IV.

August 1, 2011, 05:17 PM
I read this again for a laugh. Being 66 most men my age were drafted and not carrying something wasn't an option. We aren't over the hill as far as personal defense goes, we carry the same weapons you younger folks do only we have had a few more years to practice if we were interested in firearms. I grew up in the hills of KY and can't remember not shooting and hunting. We sometimes improve with maturity and if you mess with a young man he can ruin your day. Mess with an old man he may ruin your life.

August 2, 2011, 03:46 PM
27, revolver.

August 2, 2011, 03:54 PM
Im 31 and a fair sized so I tend to carry a Sig 226 in 40 or 357 Sig. I also carry several others but not all at once. I cant vote cuz I dont see which catagory I fall into. Maybe revolvers since my Taurus 651 is always in my pocket nomatter what else I have on my belt.

August 2, 2011, 04:25 PM
I'm 24 and I usually carry a USPc or J-Frame if the USPc doesnt fit.

Though, I should note that I will be hopefully switching to a 1911 soon.

August 2, 2011, 06:28 PM
Tough to pick one. I've carried a Colt government model, an M&P, and a USP. And I'm in the market for a revolver in .357. I would carry my G20 and Beretta, too, but I have no holsters yet. I like'm all. I've always had a traditionalist streak, but that has a practical limit. We'd all be carrying swords or clubs or SAA's if at some point the inevitable resistance to advancing techology didn't finally sit down and shut up. I just want to carry somthing quality, comfortable, and powerful. Concealability is not that important to me most of the time. Under a shirt and IWB is generally enough for me no matter what gun it is.

I'm going to be 41 next month.

August 2, 2011, 06:58 PM
I carry a Bersa Thunder 380. I'm 68 in Nov.

August 2, 2011, 07:00 PM
Im 29 and usually carry a XD 9mm. I've shot it more than any other weapon I own and feel confident I could hit my target in a SD situation.

During the summer however I live in shorts and a tanktop and I find it easier to conceal my S&W .38spl.

Looks like polymers are most carried by all age groups. I'll have to use that little factoid sometime.

August 2, 2011, 07:11 PM
I think I'm 38 and carry a 65. No that can't be right.
OK, I'm 65 and carry a 38, yeah that sounds better. Got her right here. Ruger LCR ;)

August 2, 2011, 07:20 PM
25 and my primary is a full sized 1911. I'll carry a 6" .357 when I can keep it covered and a .22 auto when the 1911's hard to hide.

24: Springfield EMP 9mm

August 3, 2011, 09:49 PM

August 3, 2011, 10:10 PM
I am 51 and switch back and forth between a Bersa Thunder .380 and a Kel-Tec P-32 in .32acp. I make my choice depending on the situation and a type of clothes I am wearing that day.

I'm 44 and carry (primarily) a SIG P229. I guess that's modern, but definitely not polymer.

August 4, 2011, 10:47 PM

August 5, 2011, 06:41 AM
I am 22 and carry a Colt 1991 Commander in 45 ACP.

August 5, 2011, 01:41 PM
29 and carry several different guns, depending on my attire and my mood. It might be my P3AT, maybe my S&W CS-45, perhaps my Charter Bulldog .44. The PF-9, Witness Compact 10mm and S&W 4516-1 get their rotation, too, as well as others from time to time.

I have no real loyalty. Steel, alloy, polymer, revolver, auto, double action, double action only, single action. I carry them all.

August 5, 2011, 01:55 PM
24 and carry all three choices, which one depending on how hot it is.

August 5, 2011, 04:55 PM
26, either a Commander or snubbie for edc, more often then not the snub in a pocket/or ankle b/c I'm to lazy to put a holster on then worry about keeping it covered the rest of the day...

August 5, 2011, 05:20 PM
After carrying many types for many years, I've settled on a Glock. There are several reasons why, but the reason most people would never guess is this: Every gun I've ever owned needed work done at some point to repair or replace something. The Glock is one pistol that I can continue to service entirely on my own. As long as I keep a good stock of spare parts, there's not much that can go wrong that I won't be able to fix myself. It is a comfort to me to be that intimately familiar with, and confident in, the pistol I carry.

August 6, 2011, 06:06 AM
I voted 21/1911... I'm 20, but when I'm 21 I'm buying a Sig P220, and it's pretty close to a 1911.

August 6, 2011, 06:40 AM
Dangit! I voted "21-29 and carry a 1911/HP style firearm"

I have carried a 5" 1911 for years, but turned 30 almost two weeks ago...

August 6, 2011, 08:33 PM
24, J-Frame

August 6, 2011, 08:36 PM
I am a month shy of 62 and I usually carry either a S&W J-Frame or Walther PK380. I voted 50+ and revolver because the J-Frame gets a little more carry time.

August 6, 2011, 08:54 PM
Carry 1911 Gov't mostly. Just comfortable with it.

I primarily carry it chambered for .45 ACP but I sometimes carry 10mm.

August 6, 2011, 11:30 PM
I fall into all three categories for my age group but went with the one I carry the most. CZ Rami alloy 9mm.

I do spend some time with a S&W 19 or LCP. It just depends on where I'm going to be and how I'm dressed.

357 mag ammo (http://www.luckygunner.com/handgun/357-magnum-ammo)

August 7, 2011, 05:07 PM
I'm 74 and currently carry a Keltec .380. Until recently I carried a .357 snubnose revolver and alternated it with a .380 (yes a .380) commercially manufactured Russian Makarov. But the .357 was too large and heavy for extended carry in street clothes, and the .380 Mak is not powerful enough FOR IT'S SIZE AND WEIGHT. But the 5 inch, 9 ounce Keltec .380 is a reasonably good compromise IMHO.

August 7, 2011, 09:23 PM
Just turned 62 a week ago. I carry all three. Kimber CDP .45ACP 60%, SIG P250 9mm 20% and S&W 642 .38SPL 20%.

August 7, 2011, 10:49 PM
46 years old, kimber pro carry (4" 1911)

i like it

August 8, 2011, 03:05 PM
Iam 56 and carry S&W M&P 357 REVOLVER,S&W 627 8 shot revolver, H&K P-2000, H&K P-30 and I can't make my mind up between a Kimber super ultra hd or super carry pro, one has 8 mag. and the hd 7 mag. but s.s. frame feels good in my hand. I thought the alum. 8 shot was it, but can't maje up my mind. Any input would help.

August 9, 2011, 01:36 PM
I was born some months before the Korean War was officially declared and have carried a Sig P239, S&W Airweight, Colt Official Police and a (gasp) Norinco 1911A1. For all day carry I prefer the Sig or S&W in their OT Don Hume holsters. Four completely different weapons but every one of them are reliable and accurate.

August 9, 2011, 10:05 PM
I'm 32 and carry a Colt cobra with the shrouded barrel and bobbed hammer made in '74. I carry it in a Dale frikel archangel kydex IWB holster in the appendix position.,it's loaded with Speer 135gr +P Gold dots.

August 9, 2011, 10:25 PM
What about an option for those of us who are under 21 but carry? There are several states that issue licenses to those under 21 and several more that let those under 21 carry if they're a licensed non-resident.

I'm 20 and carry a Sig 228
There are states where you don't have to be 21 to legally own a pistol??

Newsflash to me. Are you allowed to drink, too?

August 10, 2011, 08:07 PM
27 - living in southern new mexico I pocket carry a taurus tcp 380 from about may-sept, once it cools off a bit I carry a G19 in a crossbreed supertuck. A few times this summer I got a wild hair up my ass, and decide to carry the glock. Im planning on trying to carry it more now, just had to get some bigger t shirts.

22, mostly carry a Beretta M9 and/or an M4 and occasionally even a mossberg 500 ;)...In civilian attire it's almost always an S&W TSW9 5906, it's heavier but about the same size of the glock 19 I prefer it over

Analysis: 1911's are a bit more popular with those in their 30's, revolvers with those 40 and above. But overall, the ratios are very close.

August 10, 2011, 09:58 PM
40-50, and I carry plastic.

August 10, 2011, 10:03 PM
I know there are a limit to how many options you can include in polls, but I feel that the 1911/HP or Modern/Poly divide is way too broad (especially that poly bit).

I'm in my late twenties, and I carry a CZ P-01 9mm.

Metal gun. DA/SA. CZ 75 derivatives are themselves loosely based on the Hi-Power.

So, not sure where exactly that's supposed to fall in the poll.

August 11, 2011, 03:01 AM
I'm 35 and carry a Glock 27

August 11, 2011, 04:32 AM

August 11, 2011, 09:54 PM
Well, I'm over 60 and I carry a DA revolver most of the time and if not a revolver, I carry a 1911. I have also been known to a SA revolver.

August 13, 2011, 10:33 AM
I carry a pf9 most frequently. Other times, an officer size 1911. I prefer the .45 but it's hard for me to conceal with my frame in the summer.

I tried a j-frame, but it was just uncomfortable and awkward to carry.

August 13, 2011, 01:14 PM
I am 51, and I usually carry a Kel-Tec P-11 with 12rd mag. It's light, high cap, accurate, and SMALL. Sometimes I carry my FEG GKK .45. It really depends on the situation and clothing.

August 13, 2011, 04:23 PM
Ruger P95 carried by this 41 yo.

August 13, 2011, 06:48 PM
I'm 27 and carry a glock 30sf all year long everywhere.

August 23, 2011, 02:40 PM
I am 59 and prefer to remain a "man of mystery".

However, if I did carry, it would be a S&W 637 (J-frame) with Hornady Critical Defense ammunition, carried in a pocket holster.

August 23, 2011, 02:48 PM
50+ and carry numerous firearms. Not stuck on any one item. If I am going to a pistol fight, I am bringing a 5" all steel 1911, or maybe my CZ 97.

August 23, 2011, 05:10 PM
78. Right now a Taurus TCP738 is in my pocket. No flames please. It works.

I am 40 + and I carry A Colt 1911 officers lightweight 45 acp with A Bond Arms snake slayer derringer in 45 colt/410 for backup

August 31, 2011, 02:27 AM

August 31, 2011, 02:30 AM
I'm 29 and chose the 1911/HP style firearm. I actually carry ComBloc milsurps exclusively, but when given the choice between getting a Springfield XD and a 1911, I chose the 1911. Not that I don't respect the XD, I just prefer cold steel and the heft and balance of all-metal guns. There's just something reassuring about that.

August 31, 2011, 11:47 AM

August 31, 2011, 06:19 PM
I'm 21. I carry both "Combat-Tupperware" and wheelguns. I'm hoping to add another revolver (Either a .357 magnum or a .44magnum) and a 1911 to my list of carry guns in the near future.

25 usually a ruger double action such as the gp100, speed series, and when I get back home an sp101. I do occasionally carry a polymer pistol but that's when situation dictates.

September 1, 2011, 10:42 PM
I very recently came across a model 442 S&W. I can carry it while wearing any clothes I own. I have five reliable .38 shots, plus the fun of carrying a pistol. My main other carry pistol, for any time I have had any slight reason to be concerned is a sigp229, chambered in .40. I am new to this, is there an easy way for me to return to old threads and see people responses to anything I ever say?

September 2, 2011, 09:33 AM
Dont know how to vote, Im 26 and carry either a polymer framed semi, an LCR, or a 1911. Depends on the attire for the day.

I guess i mostly care a small polymer.

September 2, 2011, 10:38 AM
I'm 28 for another few weeks, and when I leave my home I take my full size Hk 45 with me. It's a little large but conceals well in a custom leather holster. If for some reason I can't dress around the full size 45 which I'm very dedicated to, than I take the hk45c in a my vm2 using the tuck feature. Which once again due to the slim grip tucks very well.

September 2, 2011, 05:55 PM
...Kimber Ultra Carry. Great carry piece.

But my heart remains with a wheel gun.

My favorite is a Model 65-5, 3", RB, with Uncle Mike's combat grips; loaded with Rem. 158gr LSWCHP (the FBI standard load).

I also have a couple of other revolvers which rotate in and out of the carry -

S&W Model 325NG - .45ACP. Lightweight, easy to carry.
S&W Model 696 - .44 S&W Special, 3", RB, Uncle Mike's Combats; 5 rounds of Winchester 185gr STHP, and 2 extra speedloaders.
S&W Model 49 - Pocket/jacket carry, 5 rounds Winchester 125gr JHP +P.

IMHO you have made a good choice on the 442.. In 50 years that revolver will still be reliable,,can't say that about the magazines in my 1911's, BHP's, Sigs, Glocks and Ruger's ...that 65-3" is a real Gem. to carry..had one but traded it for a 2 1/2" model 19 with adjustable sights..wish i had kept the 3"...the 2 1/2' sights hang up on clothes when removing from the front or rear jeans pocket which i prefer...also all these auto's tend to stay in the gunsafe when i 'am out and about outside my home (doing yard work, vehicle maintenance and hunting)..i have displaced many a varmit and snake with my dependale revolver..

23, carry an XDM 3.8". Going to get the compact soon (they came out with the compact like a month or two after I bought my 3.8").

I just put the numbers into excel, and here's what I see:

For all age groups, polymer pistols are significantly higher than the other two. For 21-49 age groups, steel pistols outnumber revolvers. Old folks prefer revolvers to steel pistols, but polymer is still higher.

So maybe it isn't just my generation that's gotten on the plastic bandwagon.

September 20, 2011, 04:53 PM
At 67 by the end of the month I only carry polymer pistols (mostly glock 19) and also sleep with my AK near at hand. I can still do jump kicks, I am fast, and my punch is not bad. One should never let the thinking get stale. I have used large and medium frame revolvers, and the 1911, but glock 19 for selfdefense beats all of the hands down. As a concession to aging eyes I am trying out a RMR optical sight on a G19. The polymer is lighter and absorbs recoil then steel guns.

September 20, 2011, 04:59 PM
