pics! show us your rimfires

July 25, 2011, 03:29 PM
I found a similar thread only 2 pages long, only rifles, and dead 4 years ago.

SO SHOW ME YOUR RIMFIRES! especially interested in old and weird, but everything goes :D

I'm sure we all have a soft spot for the venerable rimfire cartridge, particularly 22 short long and LR, as we grew up with them, they are dirt cheap, and the most fun/money.

My NAA 22lr 1 1/8 barrel

Old savage arms 22lr beater i found at a pawn shop years back. love the thing.

old Winchester model 190 my father gave to me

Henry lever action 22lr

Rossi 20 gauge/ 22lr convertible single shot.

My first firearm was the Winchester 190. I don't have it anymore. It had been sold to me by my stepfather when he finally convinced my gun-shy mom to let me have one in the house (he had previously kept it hidden away.) When he died less than a year later, I let his son have it.
I also have a Savage-Stevens M89, a "fake" lever gun that is really a single-shot, falling-block action rifle. It's just made to look like a lever gun, even including the faux magazine tube. I've had a lot of fun with it, but my camera is right now overseas with my wife, so I have no pics handy. I do have other rimfires, but none that "stand out."

July 25, 2011, 09:33 PM
ArmedOkie, awesome thread idea. I'll be adding a picture of my first rimfire soon (I've decided to buy a revolver and a rifle in .22lr to my collection). How do you like the Rossi 20ga/.22lr convertible? That seems very useful and something I'd like to consider when I get my .22lr (right now looking at a Henry but maybe adding a Rossi as well will be in the cards).

July 25, 2011, 09:47 PM
22's are still my favorite.

I LOVE the rossi. it takes about 20 seconds to swap barrels and it fires with zero problems through either barrel and extracts powerfully. its pretty light and short, and quickly disassembles to fit into my bug out bag, which is then stowed away in the trunk of my car. a very nice survival rifle (20 gauge for self defense and 22lr for limitless small gume hunting)

July 26, 2011, 01:22 AM
erict- that is a sweeeeeet collection. is that a henry golden boy?

steve ct- that thing looks like a friggin laser pistol.

July 26, 2011, 10:47 AM
Thanks Okie, the Golden Boy has quickly become my favorite. The stock takes a little getting used to since it drops so far compared to other lever rifles. You have to have a little more of a chin weld than a cheek weld but it really is a sweet shooter.

I have many 22's as they are my favorite firearms... I'll start out with my Belgium Browning semi auto that i've owned from the mid 70's. The wood was smoke damaged when my home burned down back then, so it got a new stock from a nice Claro walnut blank i had around,

The metal was refinished too,

Along with a skeleton grip cap,

And Neidner but plate,

Although it's starting to look a bit used and worn, it still shoots great!

Originally an extremely reliable, yet, extremely inaccurate AMT Hardballer. Rebuilt into a dedicated host for a Ceiner 22lr conversion using a few new parts and a few take-offs. Just picked it up from the 'smith who milled a Hidden Bomar. Fixing to take it back for a Novak front dovetail and fiber optic sight. Much like my project car, I have more money in it than its worth.

Group photo:
Left to right:

A little pink Cricket, for when my pride and joy is ready.

GSG-5, out of the box stock. I plan on adding a rubber buttpad so I can lean it against the wall without it falling. Want to SBR it, lack funds.

AR15, RRA lower and stock, M1S 9mm upper, KKF bbl, UTG quad rail, unknown covers, SOG VFG and butt pad, Magpul BUIS, cheap .750 riser (too tall, need a .500), and the BSA red dot formerly on top of my 10-22.

10-22, produced around 2000 or so. Bought for my little sister, who lost interest. It stays in a gunsock in the safe, as evidenced by the mount for the red dot still on top of it...

My biological Grandfather's 10-22. He passed away long before I was born. Early production, I think the scope is just as old, but the see-through rings were added by me. Also stays in a gunsock in the safe.

ZachS: I love the stock on your grandfather's 10/22. I don't think I've ever seen a fingergroove quite like that. If you've got some more pics (or are willing to take them), I'd love to see more.

asahrts: The panels are standard 1911 G10 "golfball" panels. The trick is the adapter plates on there that allow the use of any govt 1911 panels. A fella on rimfirecentral by the name of "rusty22" makes them along with several other Buckmark parts. I've also got one of his extended magazine releases on there. He makes a slide stop, but I fabbed my own.

Envy just reared it's green ugly head. I've wanted one of those for decades, beautiful example.

Keep looking. They do turn up. I too had been looking for one. I had actually never even seen one that I know of. Then a couple of weeks ago I was in Illinois visiting my (step) son, and someone posted on the Smith & Wesson board that they had seen this one at my favorite dealer back home.

I was up early the next morning trying to figure out the time difference...."What time is it here? What time is it there?" I called and had them put it on hold sight unseen. The clerk told me "It's not a five screw." "I don't care, hold it. I'll be there Tuesday." My step-son and his wife thought it was funny. "Only you could come halfway across the country, and buy a gun back home." :D

I was there Tuesday. The clerk was wrong. :D

Trigger guard looks like a conduit or pipe clamp.....

trigger guard is a conduit pipe clamp.

more specifically a 1.5" pipe clamp with one of the ears snapped off......and it is held in place with the rear action screw.

truth be told i dont like trigger guards on my match guns.....the conduit hanger is only there on matches that require them.....otherwise i keep it off....

My latest purchase, 1978 Single Six with 6.5 inch barrel. I needed a "working" SS, my other one is too nice to carry on the farm. It came without a cylinder and a chunk out of a grip, but I got it for $139! I threw in the spare mag cylinder from my other SS and it works great, mechanically it is mint.

CraigC- Is that SAA clone a full size gun or is it scaled down from the size of a Colt SAA? I really like that CZ 452FS but why do they use such a big and clunky rear sight?

July 28, 2011, 04:07 PM
here is my daughter's .22lr rifle (Crickett that she has out grown), her .22lr semi auto (Walther P22 that she loves), my .22lr revolver (S&W model 63, listed in the WTT section). not pictured is my marlin model 60.

extra pic thrown in with my wife's model 60 .38 for the pink round up.

July 28, 2011, 04:07 PM
The SAA is a full-sized replica. It's a 12-shot so a little lighter than the 6-shot "Plinker" model but still robust at 44oz. You get used to it though. All CZ's 452's have that big "tangent" rear sight. It's a very good sight but like you noticed, it ain't subtle.

That's one heck of a nice photo. Well done!! I'd suggest a hidden prop instead of the clothes pin though.:)

August 4, 2011, 01:15 PM

My apologies, and thank you for tactfully reminding me of that fact.. :o

I belong to many firearm forums and being almost 69 with only one active brain cell I completely forgot that while I was on TheHighRoad forumwhich covers all guns, I was in the "rimfire section"..

So, I apologize to all all the folks in this section for my mistake.

I'll try and delete my original post, or at least swap photos of the centerfire pistols with those of my few rimfire rifles on that post.

Best Wishes,

P.S. Fixed it... Wish I could get my enlarged prostate fixed so painlessly...

Good looking guns ChileRelleno. That M1 stock looks nice, much better than some of the other ones I've seen. Good shooting too.

I'm also interested in that pistol searcher. Looks like it doubles as a brass knuckle?

August 19, 2011, 08:21 PM
I haven't even seen this caliber mentioned in this thread.

These two are 5mm Magnum Remington Rimfire. Never heard of it? That's because it was ahead of it's time and the world wasn't quite ready for it in the 1970's. Remington made 2 rifles for this round, Model 591 and 592. The 591 was the mag fed one, 592 was the tubular mag fed one.

5mm Mag compared to a 22 LR.

If you look real close you'll notice that the chamber supports the rim of the round. That's because it runs a lot higher pressures, around 33,000 PSIG. It needs the support to keep from blowing out the rim.

August 20, 2011, 09:23 AM

You asked about the Wolverine back a bit. Well, it's the best shooting, stock .22 semi-auto I've ever used. I tried peoples' Buckmarks, Rugers, Woodsmans, etc, and this thing blows 'em all away.* It's like a target gun and the trigger pull is magnificent. It/they also eat any ammo without a hiccup.

I've only had one jam in years and that was with the first magazine I tried with the first one I bought. That particular jam sort of shouldn't count, though, because the gun had been sitting, unused, uncleaned and dusty for more than 45 years when I bought it. I was so fired up to shoot the thing that I went immediately to this little range behind a local gunshop and began shooting. The first magazine-full jammed some so I blew out some dust and got a drop or two of oil from the store owner for the action. No jams since with either bulk or top-shelf ammo.

I no longer have two because I sold the boxed one on Gunbroker. I was glad to see who got it because a woman bought it for her husband's birthday. It seems he had one as a teen back in the fifties until his cousin borrowed it; he never got it back. She wanted to surprise him. I didn't mind too much selling it because I paid $375 out-of-pocket and it went for $868!!!

Olympic Arms, btw, is making plastic "repros" which seem to be very problematic. However, they have a complete line of replacement parts for the originals, too. The only parts not available are the barrel bolt up front and the rear sight. So, if you get a chance to buy one, now you can also fix it if it breaks. Go snag one for yourself and you'll be surprised at how folks crowd around for a look when you're at the range.

* I did shoot a more accurate .22 semi once but it was a highly modified, very heavy, extremely costly Ruger that only shot one particular type of ammo well.
