I'm looking to replace the old worn out case I've been using for my Ruger M77 MarkII/Weaver V16 scope. My current case is a bit too short and too narrow. Unless I get the gun/scope situated just right I'm concerned it will damage the scope. At 48"x9" it's just too small. I'd prefer about 52"x12" or so and would like to keep the price in the $100-$150 range while still getting a quality case. I have a couple of gift certificates for Gander Mountain and kinda like their double rifle unit at $129,but it is neither dust nor water tight. Any suggestions? Thanks

I really like Pelican and SKB cases, but you'll have to stretch your budget a bit or look for a used one.

Edit: This one may work, but it's at the top of your price range: http://www.casesbyskb.com/gun/Double-Rifle-Shotgun-Case-5114.html

Thanks, sockpuppet. This one looks tempting, but at 48" just barely long enough for my 47" rifle.

And a bit too narrow for my scoped gun. Same width as I have now and it just barely fits without crowding the scope.

I like Pelican. Check out surplus dealers. The army buys them in all sizes for all kinds of stuff. You can probably get a good deal on it, but count on replacing the foam since it comes in layers that can be cut for the specific items. You'll need three layers for a rifle, scope, ammo, etc.

Some of the better drag bags are as good as hardcases these days.

Like posted above Pelican and SKB are hard to beat.

Anyone have one of these? How do you like it. Looks like a good price and free shipping. Is it worth it?

I have two of those used to have three. Picked them up on sale at Dicks sporting goods on sale for $59.99. A nice looking case that holds up for a short while. If toting two firearms the weight of the case plus the two guns is to much for the flimsy handle. The case flexes and the handle comes loose and the cheap paper thin metal skin comes loose from the banding that holds it in place.

The other problem I had with the case. The foam itself is not enough to hold two firearms in place. Unless you want to cut into the foam to help with slippage. I had a nice rifle and shotgun I was carrying in one of those cases. The rifle slipped down since it was not as thick as the shotgun. The front sight scratched the heck out of the shotgun stock. I still use the two cases I have but both guns are in gunsocks to help protect them. I don't use the handle much. I usally carry the case under my arm because I don't trust the handle.

Make darn sure you remove bolts from you rifles is carrying in this case. So my overall rating of this case is. It is slightly better than a trash bag. I sure would not take one along to the airport. The TSA will shred it in seconds.

Pelican/Hardigg/Storm are by far the best cases in the industry. I know lots of guys with various stories about how the cases are so tough and durable.
SKB cases are also tough and strong, but they are very limited in what they offer compared to the customization you can get with Pelican's family of products.
