I have had this design rattling around in my head for awhile but did not have a hatchet to try it on.
I received the Jens Anso Ax about a week ago with free rein to build a retention system that could be carried via Tek Lok or Molle Lok's.
The sheath has Level II retention, deploys quickly and can be carried reliably with the lock disengaged.
I would welcome any input or questions from any of you that have experience carrying
a hatchet.

Thanks Much in advance.

What about designing it so that it could be pulled down to release after the retention clamp released?

That is something that I have been putting some thought into.
I also thought about doing a head down sheath (where the head of the Ax is just above the knee which would have it release from the bottom.

Looks like a good utility mount, so far.

People who like to carry hatchets and count ounces will love this.

Pulling downward, as HSO suggested, might be an interesting exercise.

The handle almost invariably slaps as you walk or run, with a standard hatchet/hawk sheath. Maybe make one that would stop that. It's the most irritating part of carrying one (for me). I wind up lashing mine with the ski pole lashing on my pack.

Solid looking design you have there, though.

Nice , Jens is a cool guy , and quite tall , heck his feet hung off the end of the couch the night he stayed over my place. The Great Dane makes a heck of a blade.

The spike would stay stable and the blade would be all that you'd have to pull through. Think, cranking back on the handle like a lever.

hso:
The design that I have in mind will deploy by levering forward backward or with a pull straight up.
The sheath above was my first attempt a hatchet/ax/hawk and a learning experience for what works and what will not in future designs.

I thank everyone that has taken the time to look and comment and thanks in advance to everyone that will.
