Just wondering what calibers everyone has on their CCWs. Feel free to check as many as you actually currently carry.

Most days Makarov 9x18, .357 once in a while. Thinking about picking up a .380 or compact 9mm, something pocket sized.

ilivas, to answer your question yes I do.

My main carry gun is a Kel-Tec P11. Also carry a HK USP40 and a S&W 500ES depending on where I'm going or what I feel like carrying at the time.

Sadly, my handguns are only 9mm. Its all I can afford to shoot frequently. I have carried a borrowed xd in .40 s&w (and yes I do have trigger time behind it).

Lately I've been entertaining the idea of carring a .357 SAA. =D
Of course I'd have to buy one first *sigh*

Occasionally, when feeling a little nostalgic, I'll carry one of my two Undercover .38s (one was my dad's.) Most of the time, though, I am carrying a Kel-Tec PF-9 and, sometimes, a second gun in a pocket-holster. That one is a Kel-Tec P-32, and it's being carried along with the former to get more used to pocket-carry, as it (the P-32) is recently-acquired. It will fill an occasional deep-conceal role, but I expect the need for it to be my only carried gun to be rare.
I voted those three calibers (.38 Special, 9mm Luger, and .32ACP.)

buckeye8
July 31, 2011, 12:24 AM
My list is similar to Weevil's. I carry 9mm and .38/.357 year-round. I sometimes carry .380ACP in the summer and .45ACP in the winter. In Ohio, you have to have wardrobe and firearm choices that work in all sorts of weather. I find occasion to carry 7 or 8 different firearms on a somewhat regular basis, depending on what I'm wearing.

45acp in a LtWgt Commander most of the time.

For 9mm I no longer use my Highpowers, I now use a HK P30 LEM.

Good bullet selection with good bullet placement is the best solution from a weak system, any handgun.

Good luck.

Interesting that the .38spl, 9mm and .45ACP are each beating the .40S&W by significant margin. I would have thought it would rate at least as high, given how many people recommend it as a SD round here on the forum. :scrutiny:

80/20 9mm/38 spl. I carry 9mm mostly there are times though that a J frame or a K frame in 38 find there way into the rotation. Mentioned that .40 seems to not be holding as well. I have noticed on one of our statewide forums that .40 seems to be slowing down. When someone list a Glock 23 it lingers when someone list a Glock 19 its gone. I think folks are deciding that the additional practice afforded by ammo cost outweighs the performance difference.

I carry one or two guns concealed. One is a Taurus 85SSUL loaded with .38 SPL +P Speer "Short Barrel" ammo, another is a Smith & Wesson Model 13 three-inch loaded with the same ammo or .357 Magnum Remington 125 grain SJHP. The third gun in the rotation is a Smith & Wesson Model 681 four inch with either of the same ammunitions. One of the .357 Magnums usually stays with my wife loaded with the .38 SPL +P Speer "Short Barrel" ammo so the recoil doesn't slow down her shooting.

When working, I carry the S&W 681 with the Remington .357 Mag in my duty holster and the Taurus in a shoulder holster or on the ankle.

I'm looking to replace the Taurus 85 in the rotation with a S&W 638 or Taurus 851 Ultra-Lite with the same ammo. There's nothing wrong with the Taurus, but I prefer a shrouded hammer.

ECS

PS. As soon as I can find an affordable S&W Model 12 round butt snubbie or two, they go into the rotation, too!

I’m also surprised by the lack of enthusiasm in regards to the 40-S&W. Myself I don’t have a pistol chambered for that cartridge. Since the 40-S&W appears to be the dominate law-enforcement cartridge I thought it would be the most popular also for CCW.

I have found myself carrying my Glock 23 .40 cal. about 95% of the time. It took me a few hundred rounds to get comfortable and accurate with it and now it's the first one I reach for in the morning. I only reach for something else when concealment and lack of printing is a must. I have yet to find a holster that makes this possible with the G 23 and is also comfortable for me to carry.

I used to carry my Glock 22 .40 all the time. Now, it's my bedside gun. I now carry a S&W 442 .38 revolver in a pocket holster. Much easier to conceal and carry everyday, everywhere.

Interesting poll. I too am surprised to see that the .40 is not higher. I basically carry 9mm, .40, and .45 interchangeably based on mood and attire.

The one thing that comes to mind about the 40 is that its recoil (snappy) is less comfortable than the 9 (lighter) or the 45 (slow push).

Primary for me is 45 ACP since I carry a 1911. I also have guns in 380 ACP, 38 Special, 357 Sig, 38 Super, 9mm, 40 S&W, and 10mm on my permit. Nevada just changed it's permit rules, so now I can actually carry anything I own without having to have the individual guns listed.

The Airweights are fantastic, aren't they? My wife and I both have them (I have 442, she has 642) and they are just a sweet carry gun. Light, compact, easy to conceal in a number of ways. Darned nice shooters too, we have great fun at the range during practice.

I carry .45 ACP mostly but when dressed a certain way (or absolutely, positively can't print...) I carry a little .380.

Okay...better than a sharp stick...:)

I dropped by here today just to say hi to DHart (miss him from another forum...his photos are incredible...) got zapped there by an person unhappy with his opinions.

You all are fortunate to have him, We (mostly) all miss him over there...

At work, I carry a .40 S&W. No choice in that.

Off duty, I usually carry a .32ACP BERETTA TOMCAT, .380 SIG 230 or BERETTA 84.
If I am wearing clothes that can hide it, I will go with a 9m.m. like my BERETTA 92D Compact, SPRINGFIELD ARMORY XD 9 Sub Compact or WALTHER P99.

I have pretty much stopped using revolvers in the last 2 years. Before that, I often wore a .38 Special. Either a CHARTER ARMS Undercover or S&W model 38.

Well, .40 S&W is handy because of the easy availability of brass around here (so much law enforcement brass available). Still, I think most people carry their favorites and many LEO's carry other chamberings off duty as well.
