Thoughts on homebrew concealment shirt holster

I'm thinking of taking a pocket holster and sewing it to a sturdy shirt under the left arm, like those 5.11 tactical shirts. I figure for the first go round, a good $5 Haynes/Fruit-of-the-loom shirt and a $5 pocket holster should suffice for testing. I'll probably pick up some extra material to sew a reinforcement strap around the shoulder to help keep it from sagging. I'd love to have a weeks worth of those 5.11's, but not at $60 a pop! :what: For that money I could get a nice shoulder holster. On that note, how well do shoulder holsters conceal under a standard dress shirt?

under a dress shirt, you have to contend with color (is a white dress shirt vs. color) and I always had problems with the back strap riding up to my neck and peeking out. That said, shoulder carry was really comfortable when I did it.

If you're going to sew it in, you might want to add a reinforcing sewn in strap around the chest/opposite shoulder like a tanker rig, just sewn in under the shirt so the holster doesn't drag the shirt down unnaturally. Just a thought.

Good luck with your project. Hopefully soon we will have the final product, pics, a review and, provided you aren't starting your own business, plans to try ourselves.

Definitely go with the shoulder support. You may want to buy an alternate fabric like lycra (?) and have a seamstress whip up a shirt for you that has better support. I can't imagine it would cost too much to have that done.

Somebody just gave me a pile of that 5.11 tactical stuff. I tried the shirt holster pocket. Even an alloy revolver weighed it down to much for me.

ColtPythonElite: Any XXL's in there to share? lol

I don't think I'll be going into production, but I'm definitely going to take pics. Now if I can just remember to ever grab that blasted flash card to get them uploaded...

I tried the shirt holster once and took it off after just a few minutes. The constant pulling down of the fabric was very uncomfortable.
