Yeah, I did it..... I got a Hi-Point 995TS

I just picked up a Hi Point 9mm carbine in trade, and I love it. Its definately not the best looking thing but it's better looking than the original model with the classic stock. It handles kinda funny... I don't know if its because of the gun or because I'm used to other things. Also the trigger, contrary to what I've heard is not bad at all... its just not an AR

Anywho, she shoots like a dream and the cheapo 4x Aim Sports scope that came with it is spot on. No FTF/FTEs and it's rather nice being able to use a scope at 50 yards and saturate the center mass of the silhouette with lead at a pretty high ROF. I kinda picked one up for the fun factor, but there are a few tactical advantages to it (for those of you who care)

1. the charging handle is on the left so it is not necessary to let go of the trigger.
2. Pistol Style thumb safety (faster for me, probably because i mostly shoot pistols.
3. reloads are incredibly fast. it loads in through the grip and empty mags drop free. I'm already well practiced at reloading a handgun very quickly.
4. ammunition is lightweight, cheap, and incredibly easy to find.
5. and of course it can share ammo with a handgun.

I imagine that the baretta carbines are much nicer, but most complaints about ergonomics, trigger pull etc are from people who compare this thing to rifles like an AR-15. While this is no substitute for a good rifle, its defiantly a great thing to have

Unfortunately I don't have a decent camera. It looks exactly like a brand new 995TS though. Mine has the 4x scope that Hi-Point sells it with.

Congrats! You're gonna have a lot of fun with it! I have a 4095 and my grandson has a 995, they're a superb hoot for plinking of all kinds.

But some people just don't understand that guns can be fun, they have to be perfectly crafted tactical machines in order to be any good. Put a few hundred rounds through it and tell us if you'd be afraid to defend your life with it. I bet you wouldn't even hesitate to grab it.

We have two, in the .40 Cal. Bought them mainly because the ammo is cheap, and if I ever needed shtf guns to hand out to non-shooters, it's easy to use and they are inexpensive. Turns out my wife and I love shooting them. We always take them to the range incase we can't get on the rifle range, we can use those on the pistol range. I'll probably pick up a few more.

Gotta eye out for one myself and posts like yours keep pushing me farther.

Shot one once at the range and the trigger was better than I expected.

If you don't mind, what did you trade for it?

I think you made an excellent purchase I love my older 995 and am very eager to try the newer 4595.

I traded off a first gen Kel-Tec .380... It was a nice gun but I just wasn't a fan.

Mag capacity does make me a little unhappy... The best selling point for the Kel Tec carbine is that it accepts glock mags but I just didn't enjoy shooting one of those.

I do love to see American companies like Kel Tec and Hi Point that have sprung up in the last decade or so. There are a few others like them but its nice to see affordable innovative guns, and Hi Points are made pretty close to my hometown in Ohio. The stuff coming out of Kel Tec and Hi-Point all seems to be innovative enough to keep the large american companies on their toes, and affordable enough to interest people in something U.S. made instead of buying something cheap and foreign (I'm not slamming milsurps... i love milsurps)

People also don't realize that Hi-Point unlike the typical "Saturday Night Special" companies also ensures that their guns are drop safe. Anyway Their carbines are pretty nice, their pistols aren't nice but they're very tough and they go bang every time, I have heard that their early models were terrible though.
