Dangit, dangit, dangit, which one?

I am buying in the next two weeks one of these two handguns. I view them as comparable deals though the pistol is $35 more than the revolver.

Make the case for which one I should take home. This purchase will be a range gun, not a CCW or home defender unless either could somehow carve my love for 1911s out of my heart somehow.

I don't know much about CZs, but I LUUUUVV GP-100s, and I'd rather have a .357 than a 9. Now that I have my 1911, the GP is waiting patiently at the top of my list.

I voted for the Ruger KGP-141 .357 magnum; knowing
the Ruger reputation for building super strong revolver's
makes this decision very easy for me. :uhoh: :D

I assume that the Ruger KGP-141 .357 Magnum is a specific varation of the GP-100. My first pistol (1987) was a 6" short lug SS GP-100 and it is still my baby. My most recent pistol (2003) is a CZ-75B tactical and it is a very fine 9mm.

Get the Ruger.

The GP series is incredibly stout, usually silly accurate, and reasonably priced. The downside to it is the DA pull is pretty poor, and there isn't a whole lot that can be done for it. If you want a single action range plinker and a gun you will never ever hurt by shooting it get the GP. If you want to learn DA shooting don't get it. I have had a pile of Ruger DA revolvers, but being a DA shooter they just don't measure up so they are all gone but two, that are out on loan indefinately.

The CZ is the finest autopistol within $200 of what it will cost you. Accurate, reliable, and very well built. Beware, if you get that CZ it may well cure you of the 1911 affliction you have. It will at least open your eyes, that is a promise. I am a 1911 guy for my entire adult life, I was floored by the CZ's. I never expected them to he half as nice as they are, I am serious when I say the CZ is worth every penny and then some.

If it were me and those were the two choices the CZ would get the nod. I have some K-frame S&W wheelguns that for my purposes are leaps and bounds ahead of the Ruger.

Despite being a revolver guy and really liking the Ruger,I say get the Zed.
It's about the same price, ammo is cheap,it's accurate and doggone it,people like it.

FYI, KGP-141 is the Stainless version with a 4" barrel.

IF you don't have one, you should get it. I think it is a tremendous value in a .357 wheelgun!!

Personally, I'd get the GP100. If the DA trigger bothers you (some of them are great, some are so-so) send it to Clark Custom Guns (http://www.clarkcustomguns.com/) for their Service Action Job. Makes it feel like a super-slick S&W! :D

I love my CZ-75 and I also love my Ruger revolvers. For sheer shooting fun though, I enjoy revolvers more than semis. Guess I'm aspiring to be like C.R. Sam.

Look CZs are great and they are cheaper to shoot but my GP100 is just a spectacular firearm. Great giggle gun as well as you can run some crazy loads through her for grins since she is built like a tank.

I think everybody needs a good .357 revolver preferably a Colt, Smith or Ruger. Personally I like the Rugers the best. If you don't already have one do yourself a favor and get one.

Course everybody needs a good 9mm too sooooooooooooooo I can argue both sides so either way you will be happy.

I stand by my GP100 vote though unless you simply are not a revolver guy.

Everybody NEEDS at least one good .357Mag revo. [Mine is a Vaquero Sheriff's Model 3-1/2" barrel]

No one near me stocks the CZ line of handguns, so I can't say anything about them.

I think a full-size 9mm semi auto is a must have and I think a 4" 357 Mag is a must have so to me, this is more of a question of priority than a question of 'which is the only one I should get'...

If it might be used as a defense gun around the house, esp by folks other than yourself, I'd lean towards the Ruger (or someting similar) but for a pure range gun, I like the CZs.

Long answer first:
Well, first of all, do you have a 9mm, or a .357 revolver now?
If you already have a .357 magnum revolver, I'd say get the CZ.
If not, get the ruger.
Everybody needs at least one full-size 9mm, and at least one 4" .357 magnum wheelie.

Short answer: Get both.

Just pick one. It's a recoverable mistake, if it turns out you made one.

I'd probably go with the wheelgun, myself.

Just never have been impressed by the CZ's----have to admit I never shot one either----just handled them in the store.

Get the Ruger.

I voted for the ruger now, and immediatly start saving for the cz. Reason I vote for the ruger, is even though its a range gun for you, if you need it for a woods gun, it will be able to do double duty for that.

Just to be contrarian.....get a Ruger P-89 and start looking for a used S&W
.357(M66, M686)..........

I don't own either but I'd like both.

January 25, 2004, 03:46 PM
Hmmm.. shoot only 9mm or have the option of shooting .357s and .38s.
Actually even without that I'd still choose the Ruger but then again I'm more of a wheelgun fella than an auto shooter. In case you didn't already know, Ruger made a run of 4" GPs in the target grey finish for Acusport.

If you want my opinion, I would opt for the CZ. Best bang for the buck on the market.

I would not take a free Ruger. Why? Bill Ruger was quoted as saying that he believed that citizens did not need higher capacity magazines. He is dead now and his company has no plans to start selling high capacity magazines if the AW Ban sunsets. In fact, they are adament about not doing it. No flames please, just letting you know the kind of company you are supporting.

I know full well what kind of company I'll be supporting if I buy a Ruger. Don't presume ignorance where it doesn't exist.

Sturm, Ruger is:

1) A company whose founder is dead and whom we cannot punish anymore.
2) A company whose founder supported magazine restrictions which will expire in September.
3) By far the financially healthiest firearms company run by Americans with a reputation for great customer service and mostly great products.
4) A company that will still wind up selling hi-caps to distributors, who would be more than happy to "unrestrict" their sale. If not, the aftermarket will certainly step in.
5) If the Ruger lacking hi-caps is the mini, don't bother, the polished turd of the Ruger line up rarely makes it through a mag worth writing home about.

BTW, I still haven't decided, but I might wait on the gurgling death of the AWB ban so that I can get actual CZ factory mags at a decent price.

get a used full sized USP.

Actually, I voted for the Ruger. :what:

If you already have a 1911 or two, a .357 is what you need next. Loads of fun to shoot and it gives you the ability to shoot both soft-recoil .38s up to hard-hitting .357s. Also .357 is enough to use as a lower-48 woods gun or even a deer hunting round if you're up to it.

The GP100s I've seen and shot are very accurate.

I voted CZ. Get the 85 and then get the Kadet kit for it. Turns a wonderful 9mm into a wonderful .22lr. I am not much of a revolver fan and am kind of biased towards the CZs. (As if you couldn't tell)

Good luck with whatever you decide on,

No question about it - get the CZ as long as it's in the same price range as the Ruger.

CZ prices in my area are no longer at the value point. Prices start @ $499 and go up.:barf:

I do not like the CZ line cause the beavertail hits the web of my hand weird, worse than a 1911 cause it is the beavertail not the hammer. I like the witness line better.

Voted Ruger but prefer the S&W line......

Well it's all over but the buying. I just ordered a reduced power spring kit from Wolff for the Gp-100's main and trigger return springs. I get the revolver for Valentine's day, so I wanted the one that would last forever since it is a gift from my sweetie.

Thanks for your input.

The CZ will be my AWB victory piece.
