Bought my 13 year old daughter a new Savage 243 with plastic stock, but its going to be too long for her. How hard is it to cut down one of these new hollow plastic stocks on the Savage Axis and re-install but pad so that it looks right ? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Depends what kind of tools you have and know how to use. Easy with the right tools and decent craftsman skills. Pretty tough with a butterknife and butterfingers.

I'm not a gunsmith, but have about every power and hand tool known.

Can you get a shorter after market stock? And save the original one for when she gets bigger.

Magoo -

I shortened a Ramline stock and had to epoxy the recoil pad to the stock. Worked, but removed the flanges for the screws.

Bleys probably has the right idea - get a cheap short stock and save the other. I'm not up on costs for replacement Savage stocks, may be cheaper to get a wood stock and whittle on it.

Haven't found a youth size replacement stock for the Savage Axis rifle. Does anyone know of a source ?
