I'm pretty balanced between handguns and rifles, but only have a couple very utilitarian single barrel shotguns. They just have limited use for me.

And the guns I get the most use from are rimfires.

I was that person for about 20 years except for occasional plinking sessions with family. That is what happens when you move away from the area that formed the foundation of your outdoor hobbies and a busy career. Then I started hunting again, and shooting 22 rifles (target shooting mostly) which are very addicting.

There was a neat promotion at a distant LGS I saw once where they offered a pistol, a rifle and a shotgun as a family protection package. There were three different price levels. Almost went for it, but it was in a different state, and the transfer fees would have washed the discount.

The only time I shoot a shotgun is on the trap field. I have a Ruger Red Label o&u. My other shotgun is one I had given to me by my father, from his father. Browning Belgium 12 ga auto. Ugly as hell, heavy as lead but it does shoot. I'm definitely a high powered rifle guy.
