Can I put a real flash supressor on my new Bushy A2 (20")? I would like to get one as close to military style as possible. Where can I get one? I would rather not have the barrel threaded.

I felt that way myself about several issues. Then I learned about the new ban that some idjits want to pass and I desided to get as much as I can now before it is too late. I also believe Ohio is still wanting to pass its own AWB.

You can't legally install one (or have the barrel threaded, IIRC) until the AWB sunsets. A flash suppressor/flame damper is one of the official Evil Features listed in the AWB, and since your rifle already has one (the pistol grip), you can't add the flash suppressor or you'd have the prohibited Two Evil Features.

The "illegal" thing has already been commented on at length and im sure you get the point. But, here is the problem. You say you want to put one on your Bushy without having it threaded. Quite simply, you cant. Or more to the point noone makes such an animal that i know of. Your going to have to get the end of your barrel turned down to the proper diameter and threaded. Once done you will be able to attach any one of a variety of quality flash suppresors.

I see that this is a no go for now. Thanks for your help.

I guess theoretically, you could. However, you'd have to remove the pistol grip and put one of those awful-looking thumbhook replacement grips (like in this picture (http://zmweapons.com/Lg_images/Posbhcrk.jpg)). Then you'd have to have the flash suppressor permanently pinned on, because the threaded barrel is an evil feature in and of itself. Or you could permanently attach the magazine to the receiver and put as many evil features on as you wanted because the AWB wouldn't apply (the AWB only applies to detachable-mag semi-auto rifles).

Both of those options are rather silly though, IMO.

In theory you could also neuter your gas system and make your ar15 a bolt action. Then you could have all the evil features you want since you wouldnt have a semi-auto. I wouldnt imagine permanently closing up the gas system on an ar15 just for a flashhider though. Really, just wait till september.

Plan B, you COULD just buy a pre-ban style barrel and keep it handy untill the AWB sunsets (or not). And beat the rush when (if) it happens.

Armalite will be offering a pin-on flash supressor for their non-threaded barrels to replace the infamous Armalite "Blast Enhancer" in September if all goes well.
