here's something interesting, they wanted their revolver to hold more ammo, so they stacked it. an interesting concept, but kinda risky, i wouldn't try it. however it's a cool old revolver, i kinda like the stuff that is forgotten in the sands of time.

The thought of using the .36 reminds me of one of my old NCO's favorite sayings, "Once you have pulled the pin, Mr. Grenade is no longer your friend."

I assume the poster of the linked article must know about the LeMat if he is interested in BP percussion with more than six shots. If not direct him to our Le Mat Club on THR.

Walch. And what happens if you have a squib or hang fire on one of the forward charges? Hmmmm? And I'll bet the back pressure really compresses the charge behind the rear ball!

lol, this gun is just one of those weird things you know. they were too lazy to design a gun with a bigger cylinder and bore more chambers, so they decided stacking the load was a good idea. i imagine chain fires are pretty common with this gun! i mean that's a couple thousand PSI with hot gasses, i imagine the load behind the first one would light right up easily.

I doubt it was laziness; the mechanism is actually quite ingenious, even if impracticable.

I am all for shooting antique guns but this one would be a safe queen for me. Very interesting design but too many things to go sideways to make it practical. It would be great to have one for the collection but they are almost unheard of and no doubt rare (ie.expensive). Thanks for showing this unique gun.

Louis L'amour thought they were pretty cool and armed one of his Sacketts with one. The bad guy counting shots was surprised when the hero had more than 6. Superposed charges were used in a number of multi-shot firearms sometimes wuite successfully. The Lindsay civil war rifle-musket (and handgun) had two shots, one on top of the other. Apparently worked fine most of the time.

Arrrggg... uh... a seven... shoota??

From an old (whoever played Barney Fife) movie, I "think", but I can't remember which one.

No, the Lindsay rifle was a semi-success at best. The flash tube for the first charge clogged up with cap fouling in fairly short order, and the recoil from the first shot might tend to compress the powder in the second load so tightly that it couldn't be ignited.
