I've setup a simple, streamlined site for tracking self defense stories in the news.

Hopefully this will turn into a great place to send people who ask questions like "Why would you ever need a gun?" or "Who ever really uses a gun to defend themselves?"

Anyone can submit a story.

I know it's not the first site of this kind, but I've got it setup in such a way that it's extremely quick and easy for me to manage. I've also hopefully minimized copyright issues with this setup.

On Facebook: Guns Save Lives on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Guns-Save-Lives/214307671955070)

Today's updates share a common theme. Stories of children who successfully defended themselves and others using firearms.

And people say children should never be exposed to firearms.

Is this anything like this site in a text format instead of video?

Not sure what you're asking KZ? The site is a collection of stories, some text, some video about self defense involving firearms.

I'll look closer, but on first look I thought all I saw were video clip links to newscasts.

Added several new stories.

Also put together a collection of stories where people who otherwise would not be able to defend themselves due to physical limitations successfully defended themselves, their families and their homes using firearms.

If anyone thinks stricter gun laws are a good idea, please let these folks know that they should just accept being SOL next time something happens.

I apologize for the lack of updates, but I got married last month so that left little time for managing the site.

Been going through the backlog for the last few days. Several new, interesting stories added.

Well after reading over 275 of these stories in about 2.5 months I'm starting to see some trends and I'm putting those together in the form of an article.

1. Guns are an amazing force equalizer.
What does this mean? It means that guns are an amazing tool that allows a 5′ tall, 90lb person to respond with the force needed to fight off multiple 6′ 3″, 250lb men.

I run across numerous stories of the elderly, petite women, and children using firearms to fight off groups of grown men. Without guns would they have even had a chance? Would a child be able to wield pepper spray or a stun gun with the same ease as a firearm and get the same results?

I made a few promo images for the website, thought I'd share them here. Feel free to do whatever you want with them.

Suggestions for new images are welcome as well (as long as I can buy a stock photo for a reasonable rate).

PS Yes I know the blonde girl's grip is awful.

Yeah her grip definitely needs some work. It was a stock photo.

As a thank you to the community for all of the support for this project, we're having a contest and giving away some holsters!

Husband found your site the other day and lorded it over me because he beat me to it. I've been telling him stuff I have read on THR over the holidays and then he started telling me stories. I have to tell you:

I had NO IDEA.

I always bought what I had "learned" getting my crim j degree (in the 90's) and read in newspapers/magazines; that people rarely use firearms to save their own life or the life of another person. I bought our guns for a hobby that could be useful at some vague future date, but without thought of self-defense. At this point they are still in the safe when we aren't cleaning or shooting but I will be taking the next defensive course offered by our local shop.

Thank you very much for the time that you have put into this.

Hi All,

Just wanted to drop in a give a few updates on the GunsSaveLives.net project.

- We're getting close to clearing 400 stories of self defense
- We are in the process of categorizing every story by state, weapons used and victim demographics and we're hoping to use this information to build a more robust advanced search feature.
- We've changed the site layout to be a little more user friendly
- We're adding between 1-3 new stories per day

So if you have any stories you want to submit or any feedback please feel free to share it with us!
