Carry 9mm - Poll

Getting my CCL back in under two months and have narrowed my gun preference down to compact/subcompact 9mm.

I have the Glock 27 listed since I can drop in a barrel and practically have a 26 as well.

The Glock has an advantage and disadvantage. First, the fact that it accepts the 26 barrel gives me two guns. But at the price of $520 for the gun and roughly $200 for the G26 barrel. For a tad more I could have two Sig P250SC in 9mm and 40 S&W.

Buton the side of magazines, glock wins since I could carry larger capacity mags on my belt where as the P250SC, as far as I know, does not.

So i'll leave a poll and maybe people can give their opinions.

And a side note. I already have a PF9 and I can't wait to sell it. Don't like the weight for the recoil of +p ammo nor the trigger.

Kel-Tec P3AT or Ruger equivalent. It's a .380 acp not a 9mm but just drops in the pocket, very convienent to carry. Remember you're not going to war, if you are then the AR 15 is a better choice.

I voted M&P. Only because it fits my hand just a little better than the Glock, and I like the trigger a little better. The Glock would be my second choice, especially if pricing is a concern. IIRC, the M&P is roughly $100-150 more.

I am currently in the market for something a bit smaller than the Glock 19, so I was looking at the Glock 26. Its a great gun, and I love Glocks, but still a bit bulky. For a subcompact 9mm, I am currently giving some serious consideration to the Kahr CW9. Only 6+1 rounds (as opposed to the 10+1 of the G26), but significanly lighter and smaller in all dimentions than the Glock, make it a much more attractive alternative for IWB or pocket carry.

So I guess everyone should use .380's then? No thanks.

The kahr is .90 inches thick at the slide compared the 1.27 of the glock. The kahr is also over .3 inches longer and 4 rounds less. IMO, the harder part to conceal is grip length.

M&P but in .357sig :)

I like all the choices except the SIG P250... there is a reason why they are giving them away... The XD is a tad top heavy but a fine choice, the SR9c are really nice and i really like their adjustable sights and the packaging they give you with the full size and compact option but that LCI is just huge.

For me it would be between the Glock and M&P.

I find the M&P the most comfortable in my hands although i own a glock 27 the M&P feels smoother on recoil in the compact size and the M&P has good sights unlike the crappy plastic sights on the Glock.

The best answer though is to try them all and put them in your hand and see what you shoot best. If i shot a Keltec better than a Glock, id carry a Keltec. Whatever feels good and you are good at shooting gets my vote.

Hmm, perhaps you meant the CM9; the CW9 is 7+1:)

If a stock Kahr 9mm has 4 rounds less capacity than a stock G26, then it's a CM9, MK9, or PM9: all of which measure less in height, length, thickness, and weight than a G26.

Greg

I voted OTHER because I either carry a Sig P239 or a Glock 19. Love them both. The Sig is a little less blocky and I prefer carrying it. The funny thing is both guns are almost identical in size but the G19 weighs an ounce LESS with 15 rounds compared to my P239 with 8 rounds. Oh well.

Glock 19. Best all-around concealed carry pistol out there IMO. Others will, of course dissagree and there are many other good choices of course.

I am not Glock fan boy but I must stay I like them a lot for the simplicity of operation, maintenance, and ease of finding holsters etc.

I voted "other". The XDm 3.8 Compact is only about 1/4 inch longer and taller than the Glock 26, comes with a standard 13 round mag plus a 19 round extended mag with boot that matches and extends the grip. You can also get a .40 cal barrel and mags that drop right in to the 9mm frame/slide if that appeals to you. Using the standard mag, my pinky is 3/4ths on the grip on the XDm verses dangling on the Glock. It all comes down to personal preference and hot buttons that appeal to you but the XDm 3.8 Compact is worth considering if you are leaning toward the G26.

Your original post says Compact/Sub-Compact. I don't think either of those two really qualify as Sub. Check the Sticky regarding Comparison Charts, good stuff there.

I voted for the Ruger SR9c. I have never felt comfortable with the size or shape of the Glock 26 grip frame. One day at the range a gentleman shooting in the next stall over asked me if I would like to try his new SR9c. It felt great in my hand, just the right balance of size and weight with really good ergonomics. The sights came up quickly on target and the trigger was fairly light and clean, and I proceded to put all 5 rounds in the black at 30'. Shortly after that I went out and bought one for myself and I have been very satisfied with its performance every time I use it.

I voted other because as of lately i have been carrying a taurus pt111 pro 3rd gen. 12+ 1 and it's very compact. It's hardly noticeable and i often forget i am carrying it. The grip is a bit slim for my mitts though a sleeve can correct that.

Another vote for G27 - 9mm/40S&W option is a definite plus but I shoot 9mm out of Lone Wolf 40-9 conversion barrel. I also use Pearce magazine base extensions for 3 finger grip and added magazine capacity.

I've really been liking the SR9C and I have the chance to buy a used one with a high noon public secret holster, a blackhawk serpa holster, 1 10 rd magazine and 2 17 rd magazines for somewhere around 360.

I appreciate all the responses and i'm still looking for a good deal on a G26. I know the Kel-Tec is reliable and easily concealable but I own one and I don't like the trigger now the recoil for it's weight. So that puts the P11 out as well as the LC9.

I had to vote XD, of every pistol I have ever shot, the XD was by far the tightest shooting, and I have never once every had a jam or any other issues. The Glocks I have fired have grouped ok, and feed reliably, but the egronimics were very akward.
The Sig 250C did not impress me, gritty trigger, cheap overall feel though it too never failed to chamber a round.

I personally love the Kahr P380 (but I know the .380 isn't an optimized round). But out of the choices, I choose the M&P. To me the top handguns for carry are the Sig P228, S&W M&P, XD, SR9, USP45, & the Glock (any 9mm). But if I had to choose which Glocks preferably The 17,19, & 26.

Assuming they all fit and feel comfortable to you (Glocks never did with me), iff'n it were me...
If you want/like a grip safety, XDSC9.
If it doesn't matter 'bout the grip safety, either M&PC or XDSC9.
If you don't want a grip safety, M&PC.

Unless you REALLY need some particular option offered by the XDM line (like different backstraps to fit your hand), I'd pass on the M line...
although you will be passing up the MATCH GRADE BARREL!
If you do decide XD, see if you can find an Essentials package so you don't get stuck with all the not quite ready for primetime accessories.

Since the above two are double stacks, and thus a little thick, if you want to go thinner at the expense of round count, I'd seriously consider the Ruger LC9.

My personal CC is an XDSC9 with Pearce Grip Extender added to fix the danglin' pinky. In winter, I often carry a SIG P229R in 357 SIG.

Picked up an LC9 a few months back-probably gonna work it into my CC rotation for warmer weather and times when a double stack is a bit hard to conceal.

If you want 9mm in the the smallest package and quality I'd say the pm9 fits the bill. If you check the size charts , the pm9 is the smallest next to the Roh. 9 but they are high maintance and very costly, next would be the Kimber Solo, and good luck trying to find one, also I'm not sure all the bugs have been worked out.I personally have bought two pm 9's and love them. My personal choice would be the Kahr but thats just me , God has given us all different taste.

I have carried a Glock 26 for the past few years. Before that I carried my S&W 3913. I think either of these are fine options. Recently however I have been carrying a Kahr CM9. I am able to pocket carry. I love the trigger. I have never warmed up to the Glock trigger. I like the DA of the S&W but the transition between DA and SA has always thrown me off. I like shooting revolvers so the Kahr trigger is nice. I also like the fact that it just fits no adjustment etc. Also I find it extremely accurate. I dont just mean for a pocket gun to me its extremely accurate for any gun.

I voted for other because I find all the given choice too bulky for regular concealed carry. All good guns but too bulky and/or heavy for comfortable ccw. YMMV.

You should look into some of the "real" compact pistols. There are alot of single stack under 1lb semi-auto pistols that are great for ccw. Kahr makes several nice options.

HK P2000sk would be my #1 choice for a sub compact if I ever wanted another.

I carry a Beretta 92FS now, so I don't intend to go back to a small gun.

But I have carried a Walther p99c A/S and a Glock 26 for 11 years total combined. I've also shot the Xdsc 9mm a lot. I think the P2000sk is a great gun and what I would get next if I was still into subcompacts.

Walther P99C. It's accurate, it's reliable, it's 100% dependable, and you can use a magazine sleeve and a 15-round mag to turn it into an almost full-sized P99 (the barrel is a bit shorter than the P99). It also eats anything and everything.

I'm biased towards what works best for me. I have found the CZ Rami 9mm is the perfect combination of size and shoot-ability. I also like that I can change the grips to a nice set of wood. Having a backup magazine with 14 rounds isn't too bad. I went for the pistol that was a compact size but that I shot most accurately. I knew that I would be able to find a holster that would make concealing a compact easy. After carrying a sub compact it was already lighter and small than what I was used to. It looks great to me too.

I did carry a XD9sc on and off for years before finally settling on the CZ.

Glock G19 or a CZ 75D PCR, if you want to hit what you intend. Not to mention getting acceptable performance from 9mm defensive ammunition. 9mm is considered by many to be marginal as far as adequate stopping power, Chances are it will take more than one shot to neutralize a threat. Therefore I would get a pistol that can offer faster more accurate follow up shots, like a G19 or PCR. It is not about hiding a weapon on your person, it is about surviving an armed confrontation

CZ 75 D PCR, P-07 Duty, P-01, or Rami 2075 would all get my vote before anything on the list.

The 75 D PCR and P-01 are both metal frame guns that hold 14 rounds and come in at the size of a Glock 19. The P-01 is a NATO tested side arm and has an official NATO serial number. It is one of the most tested guns introduced to the market in the last few years. It also replaced the CZ 75 as the Czech National Police's sidearm.

The CZ P-07 is polymer and actually a little thinner than the metal framed CZs. So, it has two more round. The grip is very textured and can be irritating if not carried right. However, the gun has passed NIJ testing for carry by American police officers. Mine has been dead on reliable. The only issues came from over pressurized Winchester Ranger FMJ rounds.

The Rami 2075 is a subcompact available in polymer or metal. The polymer is about $100 less. Both are light weight and easy to carry. As with most CZs they are tough as nails and fun to shoot. They come in at about 6.5 inches long and 4.5 inches tall. Their size compares favorably with th Glock 26.
