A friend of mine is a sheriffs deputy and gave me a box of LEO Ranger +p+ 9mm ammo.

Can the Kahr PM9 handle these hot loads? I was thinking of using this ammo for my Kahr, but I don't know if the PM9 will handle +p+

Anyone shot hot ammo out of their PM9?

It's a small light pistol, and hot loads will cause sharp recoil. I find Corbon +P a little uncomfortable. +P Gold Dots seem fine. I would not carry +P+ in my PM9... I love the gun btw...

Shouldn't be any reliability issues. The ranger +P+ is hot though, so you may find the recoil uncomfortable. It feels like shooting medium velocity .40's. If you can handle recoil, go for it.

I daily carry a Kahr P9 Covert and KelTec P32. I've owned numerous other poly guns and have never knocked them. I'm generally a high-tech kind of guy and embrace new things.

Having said all that, the smaller poly guns such as the PM9 will wear out more quickly than the steel versions will. The hotter the ammo, the quicker they will wear out. If you have 50 rounds of the Ranger, I'd go shoot it up. If you're the kind of guy that feels completely comfortable and confident in a carry ammo after putting 50 flawless rounds through it, then the +P+ Ranger stuff may be exactly for you. If you're the kind of guy that wants to see 500 rounds of carry ammo through the gun before you're confident with it... well... that's a lot of wear and tear on the gun.

I carry 124 +P Gold Dots in my Kahr and I've recently out 60 rounds of 115 CorBon +Ps through it as I heard it that was the round the Kahr's were designed around. I feel confident in either of them. I'm sure the Rangers are just as effective as either if not possibly slightly more so. Again, I'm not going to put 500 rounds of the Ranger through my Kahr to find out though...

Either way, good luck with the shooting. Be sure to let us know the reliability of the ammo in the Kahr and how you feel the recoil compares to standard pressure stuff...

I’ve put about a 100 rounds of +p+ Ranger T’s through my PM9 without any wear issues, but I don’t use them, because that light weight little gun becomes hard to control…

Good info from above!

I say trade that box of Ranger’s to someone for some other type of premium round that is easier to shoot in the PM9. I’m betting you could get 60 rounds (or more) of Gold-Dots (or the like) for those 50 rounds of Ranger’s… Ranger’s being a bit harder to find & all…

+P+ rangers aren't significantly hotter +P gold dots and +P corbons. Don't worry about wear.

My buddy carries 124gr +P gold dots in his glock 19, he tried some of my rangers and said they only kicked a slight bit more, but were still very controllable.

"... but were still very controllable."

... in a G19 that is... ;)

I've put six or seven rounds of the 127 +P+ Rangers through my P9 Covert and the difference between those and the 115 Gr +P CorBons I also fired that day were very noticable.

Everyone has a different line of when 'hot but controlable' becomes 'difficult to control' but in the poly Kahrs, that line is going to sneak up on you pretty quickly... Much more quickly than in a G19.

YYMV. ;)

PCRCCW, if you really don't know what a G19 is, it's the slightly reduced version of a Glock G17. Fits between the G17 and G26.:D

Guys, I don't know if it's just my numb hands or what, but I don't feel much (or any) difference in recoil in my PM9 from 124gr Gold Dots and the +P 124gr Gold Dots. The 135gr Federal PD's feel "different", as does the 115gr Gold Dot. However, it's just "different", not more or less. I bought all these different weights and +P's and everything works well and feels about the same.<shrug>

I used the G19 as an example as it was the lightest gun we had between the two of us. A better example then telling you how controllable it was in my taurus PT92AFS with modified dual captive spring guide rod (what recoil?). :D
