The new EAA catalog shows the single-shot, break open hunting rifle.
I contacted them by e-mail and was told they are in stock and available
through wholesalers. Anyone out there have any experience with them?
I believe Remington sold them a few years back as Spartans.

Thanks.

I've handled that model, but not shot it. They seem solid and well made.

I have a couple of other Baikal models and they're well made and accurate. My Biathlon Basic is one of the best rifles I own. My experience with Baikal is that you will get great value beyond what you can expect from the cost. As always, YMMV.

I've handled a few of them... From what i've read on another forum, they have had some problems with them, includeing misfires, but once sorted out, they shoot fairly decent.

I've got two Baikal shotguns. If the rifle versions of their basic break open single shot design is the same as that in the shotguns they'll last for many thousands of rounds. They are seriously solid. Nothing fancy mind you. My "trap" single shot seriously needs a trigger job yet. But the barrel to receiver fit is stout and lockup is like a bank vault. If anything I've heard that they tend to be a bit tight when new. But better tight and to wear in to a great fit than too loose and to just get sloppier.

If you get one be sure to post a review.

My MR221 30.06 SXS hasn't given me any grief. Only issue was cleaning that "10 year rust inhibtor" out of the action. What is PITA.

About a year ago, I found a new one in 7.62 x 39. I was elated to find that caliber. It was sold as a Remington, but it was marked with the Baikal emblems. It is a beautiful well made rifle that shoots as good as it looks. Since it's new, it is still a little stiff, but it's getting better. The walnut furniture, and the checkering, is excellent. I'm very happy with that rifle.
