I picked up some trail boss today and planning to load up some cowboy action 45 long colt. My reloading manual says starting load at 5.5 gr and maximum 6.5 gr. The only problem is I don't have a scale, all I have is the .7 lee dipper. How much grains of tb is the lee .7 dipper throwing. From what I understand you can't overcharge with tb because it fills the brass mostly full. What should I do put one dipper in the brass then another half back in the same brass? Any info would greatly help.

You really need a scale for reloading!

But you can use this method only with Trail Boss.

FYI: The Lee .7 cc dipper is approx 3.2 grs of MY lot of Trail Boss in my temp and humidity.

Take a clean case with a spent primer seated. Put your intended (LEAD!!) bullet along the side of the case to where it will be crimped. Make a mark on the side of the case where the bottom of the bullet is.

Cut the case off on the mark, or just below.

Scoop TB into the cut off case. Do not tap/shake the case or try to compress the powder in any way. Stike the powder off the top. Pour powder into primed case. Seat bullet.

Yeah putting the bullet along side the case then marking it seems like it should work. I've been meaning to get a scale I just haven't gotten to it yet. And I know it's 45 colt I just know that (some people) get it confused with 45 acp and I really don't understand how
