A while ago Gatofeo posted saying you could use #3 lead shot as a bullet for .25 acp.

This sounds like a great suggestion, but where do you get lead shot #3.
I've checked as many places as I could fine, but they didn't list #3 as one of their products.

Any help?

thanks!

There is a difference between #3 buck and #3 bird shot (never seen that)

not sure a round ball would be that accurate anyway

I found a 25 pound bag on precisionreloading.com a few weeks ago, doesn't look like they still have it listed though.

You may want to try with a small amount before you buy in bulk, as my .25 will not cycle with #3 shot due to an oversized bore.

I don't have a 25 but this is interesting to me. I was wondering which powder you was using & do you think ether switching to a faster powder or increasing the charge would get the slide to function?

How much does a #3 lead shot weigh?

#3

Buck

1.52 g (23.4 gr.)

6.35 mm (0.250") Magnum shot will be lighter then chilled shot by a tiny amount.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lead_shot Ballistic Products' Out of Stock > http://www.ballisticproducts.com/BPI-Super-Buck-Lead-Buckshot-3-8lb-250/productinfo/SBK03/

I was weighing the shot at about 23gn. Using Bullseye powder I could get the spent casing to eject reliably at about 1.8gn. I could fill the case all the way (about 2.4gn) and still not get a full slide cycle, meaning enough to re-engage the striker after ejecting the case.

This is really kinda interesting not to hijack but I wonder if I could use .311 balls in my Rem 760 pump 30-06 .

If anyone is interested, I just found where I bought my #3 shot from.

If I remember correctly it was about $70 after shipping.

Which gun?

Colt Model 1908 Vest Pocket

A very kind soul on this forum offered to send me a few to try before buying a 25# bag.
I don't know if he/she wants their name published, so I won't say who it is.

I haven't tried it yet, but I'll be using either Titegroup or AA#5

And with a gun this small, accuracy really isn't an issue.
So round shot, at least to me, will be just fine.
It's not like a hunting or self-defense gun :D

Accuracy really isn't an issue.
I bought a slingshot mold that drops 1/4 inch balls.
Don't remember the load but it worked just fine.

Somebody in the other thread mentioned putting .311 lead balls into a .32ACP. I'm interested in that.

Hondo, waiting on your report.

I have shot #3 shot from a FN Browning 1906 (identical to the colt 1908) with very surprising accuracy. From about 15 feet I grouped 15 shots inside of 3", not too bad for a 2" barrel.

Unfortunately, my barrel is pitted to the point that a .25 lead ball can't make a good enough seal to properly cycle the action.

Hondo 60, find a round ball mold. Wheel weight alloy is harder than buck shot but still softer than copper jacket. No need to buy 5 or 10 pounds, just throw what you need.

T Bran, Can't help you with the pump gun, I have used round ball loads in bolt actions.

For 308 win and 30-06 I used a .310" home cast round ball over 5.0 gr Promo/Red Dot. At 8.0 gr accuracy went away. 0.311" balls should not be a problem. 25 yard squirrel killers for sure. Great for practicing trigger control and follow through. Slip one in on a kid and find his flinch.

I load a Hornady #0 buckshot pellet (weighs about 45 gr, .320") in 32 S&W and 32 S&W Long over Titegroup. Seat the pellet so that the ball is just into the neck of the case. They shoot well, not any recoil to speak of even loaded fairly heavy imho, and fun to play with.

Sadly, Hornady discontinued #0 buckshot, so if you want it better get it while you can find it. I cleaned out my LGS of all they had in stock 6 months ago.
