H&K pistol (P30) rear dovetail dimensions?

Can anyone tell me the rear dovetail dimensions that H&K uses on their pistols?

I have a P30 and there are not that many rear sight options. I'm wanting to know if I can:

a)modify the dovetail on another type of sight to fit the HK cut?

OR

b)modify the sight cut on the slide to accept a more-common size of dovetail?

Thanks for any help!

hmmmm.

suspecting this is not easy to find information :)

i have tried several forums to no avail.

sooooo, any suggestions on how to accuratly measure the dovetail cut so that I can compare to more standard dovetail dimension?--all i have is a set of calipers so am not sure how accurately I can gauge the angle of the slot

Trijicon, Meprolight, and Hivis all offer sights. But they may not offer what you are looking for.

If you can remove your sights without damage, measure them and compare to the specs on Novak, Heinie, and Heirloom to see if there's enough material available on those sights to modify to fit your dovetails.

Thanks BBBBill.

Are most/all dovetails cut at the same angle? The angle is the only thing I'm not sure I can measure accuratly

There are not many choices for the HK P30....so, I took matters into my own hands and fabricated available sights without altering any of the front sight dove tail dimensions. Simply screw in your sight choice, or remove it and replace the factory sight.

The most common dovetail angles for handguns are 60 and 65 degrees. There are probably more and I don't know what HK uses on theirs. I would hate to guess. If you have access to the end of the dovetails, you might try cutting out a couple trial pieces from construction paper. Use a protractor and straight edge to establish the angle on the paper, cut it out carefully, and try them in the dovetail against the end of the sight.

I took a macro photo of the dovetail. I think I can blow it up and print it out much larger. The angles will remain the same value even with the much larger photo. I have the HK USP Tactical 40SW. Anyone want a photo of the dovetail much enlarged so that you can print it and measure the angles? Not sure how to exchange emails here so help me out with that if you want the photo. Dali

Find sights you can modify to fit the HK factory dovetail..
Not the other way around.

Sights can be replaced cheaply if you screw one up.

Slides for HK's?
Not so much.

I contacted HK customer service 12-07-2011 and they claimed to have no information about size or angles; said all info was held by the engineers in Germany. Was told that different HK models had different specs. No joy for anyone who wants specs on any HK.

Brownells sells a $50 tool for measuring dovetails.

Haven't you heard?

HK customers suck and they hate you.
