I think if you just take the gun apart you'll see how to do it. I had some trouble with re-assembly on my S&Ws (the hammer has to be just so), but the Ruger was straightforward.

Edit to add: If you have a manual, it shows how to compress and trap the main spring assembly for removal. If you don't have one, it's right here. (http://pdf.textfiles.com/manuals/FIREARMS/ruger_sp101.pdf) You want page 19.

Installing new springs on your Sp101 is REAL easy, and I'm far from being very mechanically inclined.
This video does a decent job of detailing full disassembly, but he wastes some time getting to the point, so skip ahead to about the 3:00 point.

Thansks for the repsonses but I know how to disassemble the gun but how do I safely replace the springs? Any tricks or special tools? How do I get the main spring off and on under pressure.

First, wear safety glasses as springs do fly. Second, put the assembly in a plastic bag to trap any stray flying parts. Use a fork slipping the hammer strut between the tines to compress the mainspring to remove the cross pin used to trap the spring during disassembly. What I do on the trigger assembly is tape the trigger to the front part of the trigger guard to prevent movement to the rear BEFORE removal from the frame. When out, if it moves to far to the rear the spring and plunger for the hand that turns the cylinder will launch, hence, one good use for the plastic bag.
