I am thinking of getting one of these guns. I would be firing a lot of ammo at a time. If I make mods it would be $200 or less with mods preferably less.
Here are the guns.

-Ruger 10/22
-Remington 597
-Marlin 795
-Marlin 60
-Savage
-Other

It is in that order, the top two being my favorites so far and so forth.

I have a 10/22, a 597, and a winchester 190. And they're all good, but if you want a serious .22 rimfire that is a tackdriver, get a Heckler & Koch 416 D145RS. 30 rounds of cheap aguila match ammo will group under 1" @ 50 yds. I've done it without trying very hard and my friend who owns the gun put 30 into 4 holes @ 50 yds grouping .75" the other day at the range.

The only problems I have with it are the price (around $600) and that it looks like an AR-15 (I don't want a gun to look like something it isn't). The gun's accuracy is scary.

We have a > 25 year old M60, a < 10 year old 10/22 and a similarly aged 597.

For my money, the M60 is the best, far and away. Not sure how a new one would measure up.

To help "get someone into shooting", you don't usually need a "$600 tack-driver" (unless you're really buying it for yourself!) I'd go with the Ruger. In fact, I've used mine for just that purpose a few times myself. It's a simple, reliable, sturdy firearm that has a huge aftermarket, well, market. Makes a good home defense gun, too, should it be the first gun your friend ends up buying for himself.
