Game Cam Pics - share yours

As hunting season gets closer and closer, I just can't resist seeing what everyone is picking up on their game cams. Stories to accompany pictures always help. Here is one that my buddy has been tracking all summer on his land that he bowhunts right outside of the cities...may be trying to borrow a bow to get out there once he takes one out! This is one picture, he keeps bragging about a "possible big 12" but won't show us the pictures yet.

This is the second week of July, so I'm betting he's looking pretty good now...

I wouldn't want to mess with that last group of "critters"..... illegals carrying water bottles are one thing. Illegals carrying large backpacks are quite another....

you afraid they might be packing an extra pair of clothes and hygeine items?

kyle1974

illegals looking for work over here typically travel light. They carry water, maybe a little food. They don't carry those large backpacks. It's possible those guys might be packing their water in there... maybe.

what they will carry in backpacks is a large amount of drugs.... there are different kinds of illegals. Ones that are coming here to weedeat your grass, and others that are hauling grass.

I hunted close to the border for years, and even hunted in mexico for a couple. I hunt about 75 miles from the border now and rarely see them, but back in the day when you see a group coming through with backpacks, it's not a good sign and best to steer clear. We watched them all the time... 90% of the groups have no baggage with them, the 10% that do are the ones you watch.

the latest and greatest are the ones that are hiring mercenary types to pack their drugs across the border.... you might think sitting in a deer blind on a long sendero you would feel safe with that 300 win mag, but when you see a dozen guys in camo fatigues, and a couple of them carrying rifles, your safety factor dwindles....

I love looking at other folks trail cam pictures, the variety of different animals and situations that are captured is amazing. Sadly I don't have any pictures of my own to contribute, but hopefully I will soon, just need to decide on a decent ~$100 camera and make my move.

I'll play, here are a few of ours.....

One of my personal favorites...
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f285/41nag/Food%20Plots/Game%20Cam%20Shots/SUNP0106.jpg

Our doe "Bob" with the bobbed tail....
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f285/41nag/Food%20Plots/Game%20Cam%20Shots/Picture008.jpg

Then we got this one which got us all fired up for this past season...
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f285/41nag/Food%20Plots/Game%20Cam%20Shots/PICT0029.jpg

I didn't see much of anything during archery season, and what I DID see were young does tending still very small yearlings. Then the Thursday before Thanksgiving, I got this one not 20yds from my bow stand,
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f285/41nag/Game%20Cam%20Shots/FarmBuck.jpg

Of course when I checked the card on Friday when we got up there I got a bit more excited. We only have a tad over 100 acres and my cousin has a stand about 150yds just over the top of the hill behind the above shot. This ol buck however was hanging tight to our place, and sticking with the does we have been working hard to hold there.

Then the night before Thanksgiving, another bow stand not 20yds from where he is following a doe.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f285/41nag/Game%20Cam%20Shots/PICT0107.jpg

By now my daughter who hunts there was getting pretty frigidity knowing she wouldn't be able to hunt on Thanksgiving due to all of us heading south for dinner at my in-laws. THis was even brought on moreso by the fact that her oldest boy was spending the night with us and had his choise of hunting this one or heading down to my close friends place to try for some hogs. He chose the hogs.

The daughter hit the farm at just past 06:00, and called me at 11:10 telling me "big buck down"
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f285/41nag/Hunting%202011/Photo-0152.jpg

It was a memorable season to say the least and I am proud of her for getting the one we watched all year. I would have been ecstatic had the grandson gotten it but he knew the odds and chose to go have fun elsewhere. (He's also proud of her as well).

Me I would simply like to be in that bow stand when these all gang up like this again, and have my auto 12ga loaded with #4 buck.

I have three cameras that I've had set for the past month or so. Between them all, I got maybe 1,400 pix. Unfortunately about 1,375 are of brush or the empty sky. I've spend a couple of hours going thru and deleting.

One is a Leaf River that was rather expensive (retail of $250 range). Uses four "D's" and three "C's". All I have from it is a bunch of black pictures. Ate up the batteries.

What cameras take these good pix of critters and not scenery?? Guess there's a learning curve to them. I know the Leaf River has a sensitivity setting, which must be set too sensitive. Gotta work on the IR thing too.

Guess I'm wondering how many empty shots you get compared to actual deer. Does it take a hundred bad ones to get an actual deer??

Thoughts and tips appreciated

The cameras that took these pictures are all Moultries. They were in the $100 to $160 range. I had a Wildgame once but took it back and got my money back.

Most of the time I get at least 75% of my pictures with deer or other critters in them. A couple of times I have gotten a lot of empty pictures as far as critters go when storms came through and were blowing the tree limbs around a lot. That doesn't happen much when the leaves are gone because the tree limbs don't move much then. If grass and weeds grow up in front of my cameras, I cut them down with my weed eater.

I don't have a camera in the woods.
These are just some of the critters in my back yard. We mostly see them during deer season. Not so much the rest of the year. All the fools tramping around in the woods send them out hunting new hiding places for the duration of the season. The acorns are falling so we might get some in soon but they are mostly nocturnal.

I learned that mounting a camera on a 2x2 post driven in the ground isn't secure enough if a yearling is overly curious. Might just knock your batteries loose long enough to mess up the date & time.
