The slotted handguard was very prone to breakage. Same problem if shorter, but don't know if it exists.

Never seen one for the scout, but I guess you could always buy one and start cutting. (dunno if the handguards are the same length though)

Fred's sent me a slotted one a while back as an extra "goody" with an order once. I either traded it off of threw it away, can't remember which. It was indeed flimsy, and though I didn't have the problem (never mounted it on my rifle) I've been told they have funky heat wave problems with seeing the front sight properly as the barrel heats up.

I can indeed verify the funky heat waves. No problems with slow fire, but if you empty out a coupla 20rd mags you'll definitely notice. My barrel does seem to cool off a little faster, though. If my slotted handguard breaks I'd probably replace it with my original non-slotted one.
