This time of year I usually pocket carry a .380 or 9mm and have a spare magazine in my other front pocket.

I usually carry two. That's mainly because my only mag carrier is a 2 mag pouch, but I also like the ability to clear malfunctions and still have an extra mag in reserve.

With my hi-cap handguns I dont, unless I am out of town. Now I do carry a speed strip with my sp101, and sometimes an xtra with my 1911.

I carry an extra G22 mag for my G23. I don't carry it so much for the extra ammo, but in case of a failure. But I figured if I'm going to carry an extra mag, well, nobody complained because they had too much ammo.

We can't carry here in MD (yet) but when we get it, I'll be carrying an extra mag whenever I have an autopistol on me. If I decide to tote a revolver, I'd probably carry a speedloader or a New York reload.

Mostly just with my pocket 380. Sometimes with others but pretty rare, double stack mags are fairly bulky in a pocket.

I always carry an extra mag with me. It rides in either my weak side front or back pocket in front of my wallet. Obviously, if I'm at a store expecting to buy something, it sits on my front pocket. I'll get around to buying a mag pouch when I find one I like for a good price. For $30, it'll sit in my pocket.

I carry two and a fullsize .40. The main reason why is because I tried to carry just the gun and the uneven weight felt uncomfortable.

2 guns, a 26 and an lcp, or A 1911 and two spare 7 rounders and an 8 in the gun +1.,next few weeks I will be carrying my 1911 more likely than not with earthquakes and hurricanes, I suspect there will be power outages and spontanious looting. Stocked up on gas water etc, and now will wait out the madness.

It depends. With my shoulder holster yes. Its a double magazine pouch that I have a spare mag and a flashlight in.
When I carry IWB it depends.

Always, not just for the extra ammunition on hand , but I also factor in the chance (however slim) of a magazine failure taking place when I need my gun the most . handy to have a backup.

I always carry at least one extra mag. You never know when something might happen to foul the mag already in the pistol.
Two Gun, what about you? I noticed you didn't tell us whether or not you carry one or two extras. Well, we're waiting! :neener:

That is why carpenter jeans are great. The little pocket on the right side hides an extra mag perfectly. Plus it moves the bulk away from all of the other stuff you're carrying. It makes it less of a burden in my opinion.

I always carry two spares, one because I have a single stack Kahr and want more rounds, two and most importantly in case of some kind of failure.

Sometimes.
When I do carry an extra magazine, it has a pistol wrapped around it.

1 is none, so I figure at least one spare is the way to go. I carry one. I feel I should carry 2, but it becomes so uncomfortable that I'd rather carry nothing at all...so I stick with one.
When I carry a revolver, I prefer to carry two speed strips.

One of the thing I miss about carrying a 1911 is that thin mag. An extra mag or even two didn't feel so bulky. One glock magazine, regardless of size or capacity feels like a huge cell phone on my hip (which I hate).

1 extra mag. My usual holster has a mag pouch built in, plus mags for the Mak are pretty small so I don't mind carrying at least one.

When I can carry, soon all the time in WI, I try to carry an extra mag., though I have to admit that I do get lazy from time to time. I don't feel the need for extra ammo but do want to be prepared in case of a failure.
When I carry a revolver I only carry 1 speed strip.

no , I figure if I can't solve the problem with ten rounds I probably won't get a chance to shoot the other ten , most gunfights I know of only lasted a few seconds and about 6 shots more or less both ways . I am not saying that carrying two is stupid , just that I don't figure the extra weight on my belt is worth it. hope I never regret it :uhoh:

Typically no. I figure that if I can't get it done with what was in the gun then the chances that the threat is a) still active and that b) I have time to reload are slim to none.

That was my initial reasoning when I started carrying. But I discovered sooner or later, even with a great gun and mags...accidents, mishaps and malfunctions happen due to the gun, mags or ammo and a reload is handy.
I can see your point about time, but I also discovered that it takes less or at most about the same amount of time to reload when compared to drawing with practice. I've seen guys that have 1.5 seconds and below between shots with a reload involved. Guys that shoot competition or drill often are scary fast with reloads even when wearing a cover garment.
To each his own, but I most often take the "better safe than sorry" approach and carry a spare mag...but I am by no means fanatical about it. If I leave in a hurry, I'll often just holster up and leave with no spare mag.

I always carry at least one. Seems kind of pointless to carry a magazine fed pistol and not carry a spare magazine.

I don't carry an extra magazine for my primary piece if I'm carrying a BUG, which I often do. When the BUG is at home, however, I generally always carry at least one extra mag.

I saw the greatest extra mag excess tonight.
I stopped by a LGS to pick up a small box of HPs. There was a guy in front of me buying four boxes of Remington Golden Sabers for his his Glock 23 and 27. He had the 23 in a shoulder holster with three spare mags on the opposite side. He had the 27 in waist band and four extra mags on the opposite side. He needed all four boxes for his "storm preperation load out."
I didn't fill nearly as silly about picking up an extra 25 rounds of "just in case" ammo after talking to him.

yeah look , in a situation where I see there might be some civil unrest , I'll carry more than one xtra mag that' for sure.
