hello all
Never tried this ammo until yesterday. picked up a box of 9mm at a gun show recently.
well it was noticeably a hot round and fire was shooting out 3-6 feet on most every round?
the box says made in russia.
so i dont really understand how this happens.
can someone explain please. bad powder burning slow? HMmm:confused:
9mm fmj nickle case 115 gr.

It MAY not be bad ammo, but perhaps is loaded with a heavier charge of slower-burning powder, intended for sub-machine gun use.

A pic or decription of the ammo headstamp would be helpful.

I just got a couple cases of that ammo, it seems to be far better than the other Russian ammo out there, but it is definitely hotter than typical American plinking ammo.

If the "fire" is whitish sparks, then it might be loaded with magnesium pellets between the bullet and the powder charge, sort of like a dragons breath round for a shotgun, but with a bullet on top.

This happened to me a couple of years back, when ammo was as scarce as common sense, and I picked up some boxes of PMC Brass .380 ACP to run through my PPKs. This stuff was, without question, the filthiest, dirtiest ammo I've ever shot, and it was spitting fire like a movie dragon's breath. I've still got some of it stashed away, so if you want to see the real thing instead of a photo or two, send me a PM! ;)

If your box looks like this, it is Hungarian ammo.

Rated at 370 metres/sec muzzle velocity (Sorry, my metric/english converter is broken)

It's very likely sub machine gun ammo.

If it's not fouling up the gun overly then keep shooting it and enjoy the show. It's even MORE fun with ammo of this sort to get a buddy to shoot it so you can stand to the side and really get a eye full!

That works out to a bit over 1210 fps.
