I was just wondering if anyone has seen one for sale, or even gotten to shoot one before. I'm curious about it because I have a soft spot for single shots and like the looks of the Wizard Pistol in the pictures I've seen.

Thanks y'all!

Rossi is junk. Get a Contender.

I can't afford a Contender. I've been scouring Gunbroker for a while in hopes of one, and they are consistently out of my price range.

Have you fired the Rossi Wizard Pistol?

"Rossi is junk, get a Contender" that was helpful....

Maybe someone who has shot one of these will chime in with some real first hand range results, instead of just dropping a virtual turd on the OP's plate and telling him to eat it.

"rossi is junk" - my rossi was as nice as any one of my fathers smiths. Locked up tight (was a revolver), shot every time, was accurate, and the finish was superb. They have a bad reputation and maybe the ones sold for interarms were drastically different but who knows.

I'm not seeing a pistol on rossi's website. Though with the new ruling via the atf about converting a rifle frame to a handgun and back (new barrel AND stock required.. or modified to meet the handgun definition) I don't see where you could go wrong... Single shots are about as simple of machines as you can get. I believe the NEF Handi Rifles might also be a place to look. There aren't as many caliber choices though. The rifles are popular enough, you might be able to find custom barrels for it.

Glad to hear yours was a solid gun.

This is the Rossi page (http://www.rossiusa.com/2011newcatalog/?catalog_page=12) for the Wizard.

It seems like it would be hard to mess up a simple single shot design. Judging from the pictures, it's the same idea as a Handi Rifle, just in pistol form. I'm surprised H&R hadn't thought of that already.

scythefwd: you've got it backwards. The new ruling allows you to go from pistol to rifle and back to pistol. But rifle to pistol is still a breach of the NFA. With the wizard pistol, you could go to rifle and back to pistol as much as you please, but you still can't chop a rifle.

Neat looking gun. Any idea on MSRP? I buy American made 95% of the time but the exeptions are one Rossi snubnose 38 and two of the 22LR/.410 switch barrel single shots. The snubby has been my daily carry for a year and works great. The single shots are mechanically flawless, thou a bit ugly. I would imagine that this pistol based on the same action would be as mechanically sound as my other Rossi rifles.

If the price is right I may pick one up and give it a try.

The list of caliber choices seems a bit asinine.

You have a WIDE range of calibers to choose from in 22-250 AND 243!!!

This pistols market seems to be the entry level hand cannon deer hunter. IMO a 30cal offering is mandatory. But to offer two calibers that are arguably marginal from a rifle and that suffer the worst velocity losses from short bbl lengths of any other cartridge. WHY?

If these are priced somewhat in like with thier rifle I'd snag one just to play with. Provided it was avalible in 30/30 308 or 44mag

I think they're still tinkering with the calibers. This isn't marketed as a Wizard Pistol but it is, fundamentally, a Wizard Pistol...rather odd.

Looks like it uses the same barrel lug as the rifle from the pics. You could always buy the rifle barrels and cut them down/recrown. That opens up the caliber selection immensely.

Well it has in the add that more cal. to come soon,
I would give on a try. I had a 22 long rifle and 20g youth combo rifle 5 years back as my youngest out grew it I sold it to a coworker for his young boy.
I loved to shoot the 22 lr. It was a very good shooter. It would shoot 1 to 2 inch groups out to 75 yards all day long, With open sights. I never put a scope on it, But I think it would have shot great with a scope.
Not the best to look at but it was a great shooting 22 lr, My son killed many bunnies and tree rats with the 20g, And I shot many doves with it.
I wanted to put a longer stock on it(It gave me more than one bloody nose) but it was about the same price to just buy a adult size in 20g. And I have a few nice 20g pumps so I never did.
IMHO, I think it may be a good buy as the rossi that I had was a great gun for the money.
