Went to Cabela's to fondle a few guns today (mostly to look at a CZ 75), and ended up walking out with a used Beretta 92FS. Haven't shot it yet, but this thing is SWEET!!! Only have one sort of crummy pic so far, as I just got home tonight.

It looked to me like it was darn near new, with hardly any signs that it had been fired. Paid $425, I thought that was a good deal. Good enough for me, anyway!

You will not be disappointed; 92s are some of the best pistols I've owned over the years.

Just don't run into Jet Li. :D

Excellent, not sure there is a more accurate 9mm made. very handsome pistol.

Was able to shoot for a few minutes at my parents' house yesterday evening. Fired a grand total of......60 rounds (4 magazines). Ah well, ran out of daylight.

So far I really, really like it. What a smooth shooter. This is the first full-size 9mm pistol I've ever fired, and I really like the mild recoil. I'm not a real recoil-sensitive person, but still, it's nice to fire something that really doesn't kick.

I was very satisfied with my accuracy with the pistol. I didn't measure distance or bust out a ruler for my groups, but all in all I'm happy. With a little more trigger time I think I could do really well with it. I only got a couple fliers when trying out the DA trigger pull, but even then they were still on the 6" Shoot-N-C target.

I don't think I'll do much to the gun. I'm pretty sure I'll drop in a steel guide rod, maybe pick up a couple extra mags (maybe Mec-Gar 18 rounders?) I've heard some folks say that changing the mainspring helps lighten the trigger pull, but I don't think it's too bad, really.

welcome to the family..

steel guide rod, Mec-Gar 18 rounders, changing the mainspring

nailed it...that's all you need.

the mec-gar 18-rounders are all I use...never one problem. worth every penny for the reliability and capacity. you can add the +2 extender to them and make them 20 rounders if/when you want. the 20 round mec-gars are the 18s with the extension already installed.

steel guide rod really has no effect other than on your mentality. like for me and countless others, if it makes you feel better, it's worth it.

the mainspring is a must for cost-benefit ratio...it makes the gun feel GREAT..you'll be happy spending the $10 and 10 minutes it takes to swap it out.

I have heard that Beretta uses the plastic guide rod not to cut costs, but rather because it reduces friction and actually increases reliability over metal. If any of you are familiar with The Armory Channel on YouTube, Pete claims to have called Beretta on this point and gotten the information directly from their engineers.

With regard to the plastic guide rod mentioned above, here is the YouTube video:

Thanks for the vids! I just might go ahead and do the hammer spring, looks like it doesn't get much easier than that.
