Valor corporation is the distributor of the Raven .25 caliber pistol that Nathaniel Brazill stole and used to kill Barry Grunow on May, 2000.

The plaintiff in the case is the widow Grunow and children. According to the court documents, the plaintiff's legal complaintasserted a strict liability cliam where she alleged that the Raven was defective because it was, inter alia, inaccurate and unreliable, easily concealed, and particularly suited for and disproportionately used by criminals, particularly juveniles like Nathaniel Brazill.

By this logic, all Raven .25s that have ever had a misfire or a jam, and do not always hit the exact middle of the X inside the 10-ring, or doesn't hit the eye of the groundhog at 1000 yards are defective, and Valor Corporation should be held liable for the defective gun!!!

Its good that Judge Jorge Labarga set aside the $1.2million jury verdict.
Its bad that a jury even came to this conclusion.

Everyone here says that its better to be judged by 12 than carried by six. I guess thats true, dead is worse than alive. But if this type of verdicts are representative of today's juries....

NSSF vice president and general counsel Lawrence G. Keane said, "While everyone feels deep sympathy for Mrs. Grunow's loss, it is wrong to blame the company that lawfully sold a non-defective product more than ten years earlier for the criminal misuse of that product. The case illustrates the need for Congress to enact legal reforms to prevent other misguided suits that harm our economy." The plaintiff has thirty days to appeal today's decision setting aside the verdict.
