Any suggestions for a very competent gunsmith to rebarrel a Remington 700PSS .223 with a high quality replacement? This rifle has been flawless and I have shot many 5-shot groups under 3/8ths inch. But... it also has 10,000+ rounds through it. I am in NorCal so something close would be nice but not required.

Insights or recommendations sincerely appreciated.

Thanks !!

This guy (http://www.skaggsgunsmithing.com/) may be a good one to talk to.

Full disclosure, he is the step dad of a friend of mine. But, I have also seen him get recommended here by others. He is a Mauser guy, not a benchrest guy though. If nothing else, he may be able to point you towards someone else.

If you would consider shipping it, there are a lot of choices.
This is one I would consider, again;

Or, this might be within range of a road trip.

As Tim the student mentioned, Mr. Skaggs is known for his Mauser rebarreling, and did a Turkish Mauser to Remington barrel for me several years ago. Threaded the Remington take-off barrel and timed the iron sights to TDC and final chambered in 270 Win. It was done precisely and professionally.

I have since acquired a lathe and do my own barrel fitting.
