Ruger 22/45 work for lefty?

I'm looking for something inexpensive to practice with. I've been thinking about the 22/45 for awhile, because of the grip angle, and my handgun I enjoy to shoot the most is a 1911.

I shoot thumbs forward, and have had no problems with any semi-autos, but the 22/45 looks like the ejection port is lower and more on the side. Does anyone know if that will cause a problem, or if they own the pistol could they hold it lefty and see if it looks as if it will be a problem?

Thanks, Halv

you can add a safety quite cheap to allow for lefties, they make lefties that eject on the left side.

I just remembered Jeff from gunblast is left handed, so I just looked up his video, and of coarse he has one with it. He overlaps his thumbs a bit, but it looks like I should be okay. Next time I'm in the shop I'll just have to pick one up for myself, I have held one before just never really looked were my thumbs.

I'm a lefty as well. I've shot one without issues, and I have fairly large hands. Depending on your grip, you may have to be more conscious of how high you are gripping the pistol. The example I shot ejected cases more or less up and slightly to the right. I would say it is not anything you need to worry about too much, but you can always find a range that rents them and try one out (a Mark III should give you a good idea too).

Southpaw here as well, never had any trouble shooting my .22/45.

One minor aspect is that you'll most certainly end up with lots of powder stains on your left hand "upper" thumb due to it being up close to the ejection port.

Left handed, and own a 22/45. No problem whatsoever!!!
