The 41 Colt is not a true 41, it uses, in some manifestations a .386 dia. bullet. It was originally loaded with a heel type outside lubricated soft lead bullet, some changes used an inside lubricated hollow base bullet. It can never be construed as a "41" by todays standards. In power presentation, the 41 Colt is in the same class as 38 Special.
The 41 Special is a shortened version of the 41 Magnum, sorta/kinda like 44 Special/Magnum or 38 Special/357 Magnum or 45 Colt/454 Casull.
Bottom line: the 41 Colt and the 41 Special are not related in anything but marketing terminology with more than a hundred years of age separating them.

Thanx brother;one thing that confused me was the dia where as you said the coltis .386 while some are saying use .41 mag heads which run around .411.
I believe John Taffin mentioned it is relatively easy to create .41 special brass by case trimming .41 mag. You have been a great help.thanx. otiac
