I suppose you guys have seen this vid a fair few times already, but where can i get that scope mount? I like that idea rather than having to remove the rear sight, or having one of those rails with the sights already on it.

I know where to get that barrel weight, not cheap, but i am a fan of a heavy gun. Are there other options available that attach to the barrel underlug? it seems that its more of a made-to-order item rather than off the shelf...

also, are there custom triggers and hammers like they do with 1911's?

This is for fun target shooting :)

There are a very few custom roller triggers and such made. But they are almost always sold only by the guy who does the work to install them his self.

But in general, anything you can do with a S&W trigger can be done with the stock parts and some skilled hand fitting.

I can't help with the scope mount.
Probably a custom made jobby to fit the barrel rib and butt up against the adjustable front sight base to act as a recoil lug.

Newer S&W's come with holes already under the rear sight to accept a scope mount.
That allows the rear sight cut in the top strap to act as the recoil lug to keep from shearing the screws off.

Thanks for that.

Know of any websites etc that i should have a look at for parts to suit?

I could be after a target rear sight, something that i can choose the distance between the leaves.

G'day mate. Simplest bet would be to contact Stu Colibee at Grycol (Australian S&W distributors) & see of they have any 686 weighted barrel guns left.

My BIL has one and he loves it.

Try Muscrat Custom for a trigger job/ custom work. http://www.muscratcustom.com/

Otherwise look for a 4 position front sight. These were a factory option back in the 80s for shooting Silhouette, giving 25, 50, 75 & 100m settings.

I'm pretty sure this is the cylinder release shown in the video.

this is where most of the custom bits for the gun in the vid cam from

http://triebel-shop.com/product_info.php?cPath=236_397&products_id=28399

but that can be the only place on the planet?

S&W sells the rails and scope mounts on their site.

Forgot to mention, already have that :)

Is a gunsmith needed to change over the cylinders? Ive always liked the non-fluted ones for some reason.

If in doubt, yes. :P
The only unfluted cylinders I've seen are for the 686DX which had a grey finish and would not match your stainless gun.
As you would need to get a state dept. export permit for a cylinder you'll probably find it cheaper/simpler to go with what is in stock here in OZ. Again contact Grycol for that.

You would be money ahead to sell your 686 and hunt down a factory 686-4 Silhouette Model.

Yes, a gunsmith is required to change a S&W cylinder.

What about that ugly trigger and hammer? Mine is ugly and I know the one in the picture above is ugly. Is anyone else's ugly. I want a pretty one like on my Redhawk. Where or who makes one? The gun is nice but those ugly pieces are a shame. Can anyone help?
