Taurus ad in "American Rifleman" claims 8-round extened magazine for the TCP...

I purchased a Taurus TCP right after they were released with full plans to purchase the 8-round extened magazine when it came out. The advertising of this magazine played a big role in me selecting the TCP over a couple of the other tiny .380's available. Needless to say, it appeared Taurus scrapped plans to make the extended magazine a few months after the release of the TCP.

Well, in the October 2011 issue of the NRA's American Rifleman magazine, there is a full page ad on page 58 advertising the TCP as "Available in 6+1 -- 8+1 with extened magazine..."

Now it would seem weird if they canceled plans to make the 8-round magazine and are now advertising it still a year after they said they weren't going to produce it. Are their new plans to make an extended TCP magazine, or are they still trying to entice customers with false advertising? Anyone heard anything?

Wouldn't surprise me one bit. On their website they advertise an 11 round magazine for the 9mm and .38 1911 models, as if they were in production and available.

I called them, and was told "Its not, its just an idea we've been tossing around, its not in production and we don't know if or when it will be"...

That kinda nonsense helped me NOT purchase a Taurus 1911. I got the Beretta 96 instead.

Odd. It would be more like Taurus to just release something on a whim to see if it sells, rather than to release a false ad and see if anybody cares.

The wierd thing is that before they released the TCP, all the gun magazines were told (and therefore wrote about) the 8-round magazine that would be INCLUDED with the gun. I ordered one only to find out that there were 2 6-round magazines in the box.

A few people called them last year and they said they would not be produced. And now they start advertising for them again...

This is exactly why I did not purchase a Taurus 1911. I was told some "hearsay" from the customer service rep,. then explained I was about to purchase a gun, and needed a more solid answer, and she put me on hold, and supposedly talked with a supervisor.

I dunno about them. My great grandpa swears by their revolvers. But I think I'll get a better 1911 down the road. I think the advertising is jacked up, especially for it to end up in a NRA publication with false info. Makes me wonder about Taurus... they must not run a very tight ship.

Maybe it gets lost in the translation?

I had a good friend who bought one of the Raging Hornets when they came out.
Of course it broke a part almost immediately.

And the part had to be made out of Unobtainium, in South America.

He set on it waiting for the part to come in, for several months.
We finally got the part and I fixed the gun.
He sold it at the next gunshow to cut his losses.

I know promag makes a 10 round mag for the Ruger LCP but i think it looks a little odd since it sticks out but hey you never know if Ruger will make something themselves. This whole deal with taurus is another reason i will never buy one. Their semi-autos i would not touch but their revolvers are not bad (either the Rossi or Taurus are good)

They also make a 15 round mag, that kinda confuses me as to WHY someone would want a 15 round mag for the LCP

Yeah, sorta defeats the whole ultra compact wallet size thing, doesn't it?

I bought an LCP, and sold it a few days later. I'll just get a Charter J frame, for pocket sized need.. Didn't like the feel of it.

See, I've heard so much taurus hate, its incredible. But people who own a model that has been in production for a few years (certain millennium and revolvers) swear by them, and if an issue arises, they usually have parts in stock, or repair.

Their 1911 is a great gun, everywhere I read. But this whole miscommunication thing between South America, and Miami to advertising in media and on their website sent me feeling like they don't have a tight operation. Not tight enough to buy a $600 item.

As for my 1911 quest, I think I will go with the new Ruger when the time comes (probably February- I'm all tapped out now). Its around the same price, and made in America, and they have pretty much always made a solid gun.

For a long time there were advertisements hinting at double-stack Taurus 1911s. They also had a "2045" they were set to introduce that never materialized. I very much dislike it when gun companies pull that kind of nonsense. That's one of the reasons why I personally will not buy a Taurus.
