I have had excellent results using IMR 4064 in my 91/30. I want to load for my M44 and before using precious powder on what may be an inappropriate application (M44's shorter barrel), have others whom have loaded for this type of rifle found a faster burning powder better than IMR 4064?

Whatever powder gives the best performance in a long barrel will also give the best performance in a short barrel.
You may get more muzzle blast with the slower powder, but you will also get higher velocity at the same or less pressure.
That rule applies to everything from 2" barrel revolvers to 30" barrel rifles.

As for IMR-4064?
It is a pretty good medium burn rate rifle powder for about all the military rifle calibers.
But I can't find any load data with it for the 7.62x54R from Hodgdon or Lyman.

Lyman seems to think Varget or IMR-4895 is better with lighter bullets.
And Varget or IMR-4350 with heavy bullets.

At any rate, if you like IMR-4064 in one Mossy, you will find it just as good in another Mossy, regardless of barrel length.

I used IMR4320 and it worked ok with 180 Gr Sierra .311 bullets in a 91/30

I had good luck in my 91/30 with IMR 3031 ad 150gr Hot-cors. Might be a good combo for shorter ones too? My buddy loads the same for his M44 works pretty good.
