just me? Or you too?

I was happily surfing through this forum and some others the other night. Some were gun forums, some were radio controlled model sailplane forums.
Basically, I was minding my own business and not bothering anybody when my wife walked through the room, behind my chair and looked over my shoulder and noticed what I was doing. That's when I got the funniest question I've ever been asked.
"Guns and planes! Can't you just surf porn like most guys?"
I'm typing this from my new computer. The old one suffered from coffee being blown all over the keyboard and I nearly choked to death laughing!

My wife used to not understand my gun hobby, or why I carried. We had a break I two doors down that shook her up a bit, and she voiced concern that there wasn't a gun in the house while I wasn't there. My mother's boyfriend loaned us a revolver, and I took her shooting. Now SHE is always suggesting going to the range on date nights, and is looking at getting her CPL and an M&Pc for herself! She never knew guns could be so fun, and feels a little more comfortable when I'm not home (I work at a bar, so I don't get home til 3-4 am).
Try taking her with you while you enjoy your hobbies. Even if she doesn't like it., she'll see the joy they bring you, and realize everyone needs a hobby.

Just you if it's only you and I. My wife actually reads this forum on a regular basis. Doesn't post, though.
As for porn.......yeah, my lady stands 5'7", weighs 128 lbs with a beautiful face and loooong brown hair. Don't need porn :)
She shoots, too

Oh, she shoots too. She's danged good also! She also carries and enjoys shooting. And her dad was a pilot/flight instructor, corporate pilot so she's been around planes as long as I have (my dad was an airline pilot) but she just doesn't enjoy forums and such.. Now, as for Facebook? She LOVES that dreck!

Well, porn kinda leaves me cold these days. Maybe it's because I feel I've already used up far more than the average lifetime allotment of sexual activity (I was on the front lines -- and in the trenches, so-to-speak -- of the sexual revolution).
But I can understand that forums such as this can be every bit as addictive as (I'm told that) porn can be. Plus, THR is an addiction I can indulge at my favorite sidewalk cafe or any other public place with internet access.
Seriously, though, the attraction for me here is the exchange of information, experience and opinion. OTOH, spending a lot of time just gazing at closeup photos of guns (no matter how pretty they are) does strike me as an awful lot like looking at porn.

Why does it have to be either/or. Multitask like a pro.

LOL! Yup, BTDT... Like someone else said, looking at fine weapons up close on your computer is kinda like looking at porn in a weird way. Hey, at least I'm not out boozing, womanizing, & gambling.

Yup, that's how I justify new guns and hours of reloading to my wife. When we go shooting we usually go with a few of my friends and they don't reload and always complain about the high cost of ammo.
This weekend six of us went out, and they shot only a few dozen rounds and they were done. We had several of my milsurp rifles and shot about 1200 rounds that afternoon. One of my buddies was asking how I could afford to shoot that much and my wife popped up and asked me how much did it cost to reload a round of 7.62? I said about twelve cents and she just looked at the guy and smiled. She then commented that at least it kept me out of the bars and at home.

I got a folder on my laptop labeled "PORN" and its full of my dream guns. One of my x's opened it expecting something else and all I heard was "REALLY?!?!"
She declined my suggestion of nudie photos with my guns.

my wife grew up with a father who has more guns than he can count....and says he about to retire so he can "get serious" with his gun hobby......so she is used to people having more guns than they really "need".....but she still doesn't quite understand
but she realizes that most hobbies are irrational and at least guns hold value better than fishing boats.....and porn

My DH doesn't grasp what I could possibly enjoy about talking to (and, on political forums), arguing with strangers on the internet.
I don't mind. I don't understand how he can enjoy baseball -- a game where the more skillfully its played the less happens and a "perfect game" is one where nothing at all every actually happens. LOL
So to each his/her own.

Actually I have owned several aircraft and never lost money on any of them.. That was when Aviation fuel was less than $1.50 a gallon and not $5.00 like it is today. Used to travel all over and do air shows and fly-ins for fun and fellowship. Could blow a cylinder and order a new one for less than $400 have it on and the engine running in three days. Last cylinder I ordered cost $1200!!! Same cylinder just cost of business, insurance, and manufacturing cost had gone up...That is when I got out of private aviation.
Had a sail boat for 3 years and and put a lot of work and effort into making it something special because we spent at least 2 nights a week on it when the kids were young. Sold it for what I paid for it but all in all I lost money. Used to think I might retire and sail around all over the place....Man that ocean has some serious critters in it not to mention it is darn wet and wants to chew you up and maybe not spit you out if the weather comes in. Friend saw waves breaking over the bow of his carrier!!! No thank you.
If you are talking divorce I had a friend who wanted to get married to a wonderful gold digger. Told him to buy a dog; it would meet him at the door with tail wagging and be happy to see him....Needless to say he did not listen so three years later and $250,000 he got a divorce; he now owns two dogs!
Life is meant to be lived and some roads we take are well paved with rest stops and good food. Other roads suck!
