I was looking at a rifle recently and all it had written on it was VAR
(AR type), not bad quality , but I find no information on any manufacturer called VAR .:banghead:

It is probably short for varmint. Ex model 1 sales has a Var (varmint) upper.

VAR - simply stands for Vosátka AR :-D
Site (http://www.v-ar.cz/en/contacts.html) And in Shop.. (http://www.bvs.cz/kulovnice_vos_var_223.html), They are made near my home, but Ive never had a chance to shoot one. Probably made in cooperation with Proarms PAR (http://www.proarms.cz/PAR_Mk1.php)

thank you bohemus , this is the rifle , it is twice the price of the norinco in my country (south africa) but it seems very good quality.

Yes, here it costs more than twice as much as Norinco (17.990 vs. 46.900 CZK) too, but it gained very good reputation at my homeforum (http://www.strelectvi.cz/forum/v-ar-15-t12457.html). After all, its not mass production.
btw: 7,62x39 and 6,8 models should come soon.

do you know if it has a chrome lined barrel ?
and how many of them are made ? at this stage ? just hoping that the demand won't outpace the supply in the near future before I get one

I dont think so, but you can read some details at Lothar-Walther/ (http://www.lothar-walther.de/) which makes them.
