Hey there everyone. So I havent been out Bow hunting in a few years. Actually since 2003. Back then I had a PSE, Dan Fitzgerald model that my parents had bought for me in high school.

So to the point. I am looking to buy a used Compound Bow in the 200-300 dollar range. The less the better. I have been cruizing the web and have been looking at the Mathews Q2. I remember back in 2003-2005 I really wanted one but on a Lance Corporal's pay couldnt pick one up.

I plan on going to the local archery shop to get measured for draw length and what not.

My question is what would you all recommend in my price range. Im looking to be in for 200 on the bow, and hopefully another 100 in accessories. Thanks for the help.

pretty much any bear, PSE, Matthews, Bowtech or other big name maker will do you fine...
when buying a used bow be sure to CAREFULLY inspect the limbs for hairline cracks from dry firing or even just age...the last thing you want is a limb to explode while drawing back
I scored a great 2005 PSE Firestorm Lite on Craigslist about 2 yrs ago for $100...there are deals to be had, just take your time, inspect them carefully and do your homework

I have an older Bear compound that I bought through the Sportsmans Guide long ago it is a decent shooter. The problem with older bows is some replacement parts are no longer available. When I took my bow in to be restrung a couple years ago my bow guy told me that the yoke for this model is no longer available so if and when it goes bad ill have no choice but to replace the bow. Aparently he had one go bad with another customer and could not find a replacement. Since the new string ive had no issues but I hate the thought of replacing a bow for an insignificant little part.
I guess all of this rambling is a caution to do good research before buying an older model bow regardless of its current condition.

I scored a stripped Hoyt/ Easton at Goodwill for $20.

I see a lot after deer season on Craigslist. Not much use if you want a bow for deer season though.

One of my hunting buddies has a bow he only uses on rainy days. It's approx 20 years old, BEAR, he bought on eBAY. It came with hard case & arrows for about $100. Slightly heavy and a bit long by 2011 standards but it shoots straight.

Martin has always built sturdy archery products, too.
