I dont think the bird suffered too much at least. Animal suffering and mistreatment really makes me mad, but a clean kill is totally different. These arent my pics btw, just reposting them.

Good photos. Good riddance.
But, with the height indicated, it makes this old country-boy-near-the-cities wonder what would have stopped that bullet if the bird did not.

Not my pics, just reposted them, I do know that it was shot with a 17 HMR which has a fairly limited dangerous range, at least compared to most centerfire cartridges. In open country you can easily see as far as the bullet will travel, even if aimed at a high angle. I guess the best solution is to just not miss though, hehe

In the late '40's we used to pop them and starlings with Red Ryders - good kills, didn't blow them apart.

In College the Apartments that I lived at were invaded by Blackbirds. The parking lot turned white from their droppings and it actually stank outside from them. Roomate and I bought Pellet guns and would try to kill as many as posible a day. The management would do nothing to get rid of them. We were in a fairly residential area. I dislike them.

Good riddance...evil rice eating....umm critters.
Being 2 hrs from the Rice Capital of the world, that ain't cruel...it's maintance, critter control to protect the food crop.
PETA, you want to eat Blackbirds or Rice.? ...pick one!
I didn't know about "misty" until Art educated me...pretty much describes what a Model 70 in '06 will do to one.

I was fined by the wildlife officer for shooting a redwing black bird..he told me that they are a migratory bird and protected.I dispise those grackles-they sit on the chimney during winter to stay warm and the co gas makes them pass out.they fall into the chimney and get toasted in the furnace in the process of trying to get back out. where i have to clean them out.ive looked into a chimney cap but nobody is willing to climb up there yet to do it for any less than 200 bucks which i dont have anyways.yall gotta love blackberry season..nice speckles all over my car.let peta come and get all the blackbirds round here...otherwise they are history.

Imported from RFC. I can't really tell WHAT kind of bird that is since there are so many that are "black" but I hope we're not shooting Purple Martins. I can't stand those freakin' grackles. Four or five of them can eat a whole pan of doggy kibble in about twenty minutes. One of my dogs thinks THAT'S the kind of bird he's supposed to be after !:D I hafta get me a .17, that looks like fun.
