How do these two compare and which would you choose? is the XD as reliable as the Glock?

Yes the XD should be just as fine as the 26 - the 26 is slightly smaller in almost all measurements than just about any other double stack 10 round and up guns.

That likely will not make enough difference in how you carry.

Personal preference. The XD is absolutely reliable, I had an XD40-SC and it never skipped a beat.

If I went back to tupperware, I'd probably go back to an XD9-SC.

Biggest difference I can see:
1. Which grip (if it makes a difference to you) do you like the best?
2. Do you want the grip safety? (and it does serve a purpose, particularly when you use proper technique when reholstering).

Those are the two biggest differences I see in 'em.

I used to have an XD9 subcompact, carried it for a couple of years. Absolutely reliable pistol. Blocky little guy, though.
Saw a Glock 26 in my dealers case and thought I'd give it a try, though I was not a Glock person.
I loved the 26, slightly smaller in every dimension makes it a touch easier to carry.
No more XD, sold it, the 26 works better for me in every way.

You'll often find people who have shot them both say you can't go wrong either way. You have to try them in your hand. Preferably shoot them as you'll find some people discover they shoot one better than the other (it goes both ways from what I've seen), Barring that try to get both in your hand several times and really grip it the way you would when shooting. For instance I didn't realize the Walther put pressure on the side of my thumb until the 2nd time I tried it. For me the XD was set aside early, I now forget why. It was down to the M&P and the G26 at the end, and I won't claim my final choice of the G26 was based entirely on objective considerations.

I handled and shot both and went with the G26 based purely on personal preference: the bore axis is a little lower on the G26, so there was a bit less muzzle flip. That was more important to me than the grip safety (which was also high on my priority list).

Otherwise, as others have said, can't go wrong with either.

I Love 'em both! One of mine is no more or less reliable than the other.

I find I shoot the Glocks better than the XDs. I shoot the M&Ps even better than that so that is what I own.
