Saw this pistol at a local gunshop for $990. Very well built and great balance. Trigger was crisp at about 5lbs. I have no idea or clue about this particular brand of pistol. The seller stated that these are rare since it is a .380 caliber. Would like some feedback about this company and pistol if you have information. Thanks.

Hi Standard, for most of the company's life, made high quality rimfire handguns. Their Victor and Supermatic Trophy model .22 target pistols had well deserved reputations for quality and accuracy. They were originally based in Hamden, CT before moving to West Hartford. The company started to slide downhill in the late 70s and early 80s, if I remember right, and eventually was sold off to a Houston company.

The .380 that you found is the only handgun model made by Hi Standard that fired a centerfire cartridge. They were made from the end of WWII to the early 50s IIRC and production was under 10,000. I've never handled the .380, but own and love several other Hi Standards. Great guns.

IMO price is way too high.

Considering the scarcity, I don't know if that is too high or not.

A Hi-Standard collector might jump all over it if he needed one for his collection bad enough.

However, that is not to say you should buy it for actual shooting..
Parts, magazines and holsters will be nearly non-existent of you need them.

Your right RC, I looked at it too quickly the first time. The poor pics just made me think it was a shooter. If it is 98% with the original box, then the price is probably close.

If you are looking for one to shoot, you can find them for around 5-600 on the national auctions sites.

That is one gun I've always wanted. You see them occasionally in GB.

Thanks for the reply guys. RC you made a valid point about parts being scarce. Because of that I probably will not buy it. The handgun was at 85% but was very well balanced. To bad about the parts. I do not collect guns, but I do buy a lot of them and I shoot them all. My intention was to shoot the heck out of it. Anyway I did also think the price was a little high.
