My Colt came with a Ma Tech BUIS. I've only put about 500 round through it and now the Ma Tech flips up after each shot. The little notch that is supposed to hold it in place has worn down enough to not secure it during recoil. Hopefully Colt will make good on this.

Any others had issue with this BUIS?

I've personally given 3 of them the same problem. Luckily they don't belong to me, and the experience has been sufficient to teach me that a matech sight will never go on my personal rifle.

The Matech is not renowned for being the most durable BUIS.

For serious work, use Troy for folding and LaRue for fixed.

I've heard the military is actually moving towards the magpul polymer but can't confirm.

Either way i paid for the thing so expect it to work even if i replace it with something else so we'll see what Colt says.

I fixed mine by putting a few thin wraps of 100mph tape around the base so it friction fits and stays down. Crude but effective.

I wouldn't spend my own money on one.

I've never had a problem with mine but I have seen some that have a pin that walks out. If you look at your sight from the top, look for the aperature pivot pin and make sure it is flush on it's base on both sides. I've seen some that walk out and the rear sight doesn't stay locked down. A quick puch back in with the Benchmade and all is well again. If it is soft metal though, that's a possibility but I've never seen the problem before.

Seems like you got lucky. A full 75% of issued Matechs in my unit experienced the exact same failure after a year of hard use.

If you want a quality flip up rear, and you still want the adjustable elevation feature, go with the KAC 2-600m model. It is great, but not cheap. My buddy used to like the Matechs he was issued until I let him try my KAC. Somehow I never ended up getting it back :D , and it is now on his rifle over in Afghanistan, lol.

Replace it with a troy. I dropped my rifle straight on the sight on a concrete step. Really took a beating and it is still good to go.

Primary lesson learned:: Don't buy cheap, no name sling hardware.

If you are really having problems with your sight and not blowing smoke send it back to Matech.
They will replace any defective sight that has not been altered. HTH

Are you serious? Yeah Sherlock, you figured me out. I'm just making up the story for attention. Okay, okay, i admit it. Troy, Yankee Hill, Magpul and all the other BUIS makers are paying me to ruin Matech's good name. But wait, a simple google search is all one must do to discover what a common problem this is so i guess my mission was done for me.

Relying on a small metal protrusion that is likely to wear away with use is a horrible design.

Either way Colt has asked me to send it back, at my cost, to handle the issue so that's what i'm doing.
