I wanted to share a couple videos that I've taken recently of two of my M1s.

Video One. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FatnDZdkrlc&hd=1)

Video Two. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oinEMoz0j2Q&hd=1)

I welcome your comments/thoughts.

I've got another one sent off for stock replacement and reparkerizing. It's an authentic WW II Garand, receiver and barrel, mixmaster bolt and trigger group that had a really crappy stock replacement. I'll post pics of it later.

Yep, you've got a couple of beauties there.

A comment on your idea of oiling the wood. Collectable or not the guns need to be maintained. You wouldn't let the metal go dry and begin to rust would you? So neither should you let the wood finish suffer from neglect.

You'll want to check on what was the proper service finishing oil used for the wood. And whatever it was stick with that. I seem to recall that on Garrands the oil was natural tung oil. If so then use that rather than linseed. But either way find out what was the service norm and go with that.

Oil finished wood of this sort should get recoated about once every year for guns that are used only seldom and in nice conditions. If left out in the sun or used in bad weather more like a coat every 6 months or when the wood looks dry and "starved" is better. Spread it on and then wipe it off vigorously with dry shop toweling to do the job right.
