Ok, I am obviously not an expert on Remington 870 so excuse the question if I am missing the obvious... Why and when did Remington change the slide and action bar configuration to include the extra notch on the left side of the slide and the corresponding extra tab on the action bar? In other words, slide from an older 870 can't be used with action bars from a new 870... Have I confused everybody yet as to what I am trying to describe? Thanks in advance for any answers offered! Art G.

Guys like me tore the single notches off the action bars, so they doubled it up and now laugh at me. In 99.5% of cases the single notch of the old style was plenty and then some.

HSMITH - Do you know approximately when they made that switch?

No I don't, sorry. I can ballpark it as being pre-1950 or so but that is as close as I can get.

they totaly interchange, a 1950 slide will work on a 2004 870.

My dad used to say that I could wreck an anvil with a powderpuff or a plastic spoon, alternating the implement of disaster as he saw fit.....
